Maybe someone might be able to give me suggestions on this.
(*I bought my bike with the AI already removed by the previous owner)

I found a black rubber plug or cover on my garage floor yesterday where my bike was parked. I'm trying to figure out what it came off of. My 03 Speedmaster has the AI snorkels removed* but still has the OEM air box and original air filter enclosures. On-line I saw what parts come with the AI removal kit and there is an Air Box Plug. I'm just wondering if this has came out. I don't know where the plug is suppose to be located on the box but I can see the existing rubber tube cap and the metal screw in plugs on my bike. This plug/cover I found 'looks like' it has been on top of maybe a hex shaped object like a nut. Where do I look for the air box plug on my bike to make sure it's still there? I'll try to get a pic. of this rubber cover or plug. It's about an inch across on the top of it.

Front or rear axle nut covers !!!

I got a pic....But,I can't find the darn connection to my camera :-(. We just moved but that's another story.

Does sound like maybe the axle rubber.

Nope, too small for the axle nut. It's just a little larger than the nut on the rear shock(s). I'll keep looking.

If the AI is removed and the stock airbox is still there it might be to plug the hole in the airbox where the AI hose used to go. Front left upper corner of the box.

Vacuum cap?

check the bolt/nut cover for the swingarm pivot maybe

I am not sure how to get to the Air Box to look for the plug that comes with an AI removal kit. How much do I have to remove to view where this plug goes into the Air Box?

Also,..I have taken my seat off and pulled out the rubber intake air connecter just above the air filter. My filter is an oval shaped one which I assume is stock. I was going to take the filter out but it looks to be blocked by some sort of wiring cover on one side. I'm guessing this is the procedure to remove the OEM filter? The K&N and Uni filters I've seen look to be round. Would one of these fit in where my original one is now?

I just opened mine up....so take off the wire cover there is an allen head screw toward the front of the bike. The orginal filter is oval. The UNI is a direct replacement as I understand. I don't know about the K&N that may requre the freak kit.

Yes they are made to be a better option and direct replacement as long as you don't buy the pods that clamp directly to the back of the carbs.I don't know about the K&N replacement but the UNI is a foam filter that can be cleaned and reused. The K&N I think is a gauze style and can be cleaned too but I could be wrong.

there is a direct stock replacement K&N filter, similar to
the UNI.
I have had both and find the K&N easier to clean and re-oil.

to access the airbox where the AI tube was connected you
need to remove the left side cover ( chrome cheese grater ,
and plastic cover ).
remove the screw from the bottom of the chrome cover, then
the 2 screws the hold the plastic cover on.
pull the cover off .
on top of the airbox at the forward edge is a hole where
the tube for the AI was , should be plugged.

Have you figured out what it is yet?

There is a 5-6mm allen head bolt that holds the wiring cover on. Just take it out and you will gain access to the last bolt on the filter cover. My 06BA has the oval filter too. I think the round ones you are looking at are pod filters that are to be used with the airbox removed.
