Untill i pick up my new ( well old and was mine once) bike. Any of yall remember my BA that was stolen? Well got a call 2 days ago from the local PD. Seems they did a underage drinking sweep in one of the local gin joints. Long story short one of the people they busted had "his" bike out front.. Well law says if you go to jail, so does your ride. The officer ran the VIN and it came back as stolen.. So Bonnie is coming home tonight. I think i will park her in the house with 20 chains wrapped around it and chained to my ankle lol. Still no word on my bussies chopper that was stolen also.

I think the kid needs 20 chains wrapped around him.

(Then throw him in a lake.)

Hopefully you have the same experience I did. I was out to sea (U.S. Navy) on a destroyer based out of San Diego. I parked my tricked out 52 Olds at the navy base parking lot. When I came back, the car was stolen. I reported it to the police, but two weeks later the car was still missing. On a hunch, I went to the parking lot (rather large with a zillion cars) and search about. Lo and behold, I found my purloined vehicle. The great thing about it was that it apparently was stolen by some navy guys who added more goodies to the car. The trunk was also full of all kinds of detailing things, and the car looked like it had just come off the showroom floor. I loved it!!

Fingers crossed Matthew from me your bike was not scratched, dinged or damaged in any way. I'm paranoid about theft or doing any damage to my speedie so I think I know how you must have felt but whatever condition your ride's in, everything can be fixed.

Glad to hear it most stolen vehicles are never seen again. I had a bike stolen God knows how many years ago. Funny part is it had broken down . I lived in a room at the time so no room for everything in there I gutted the engine but reassembled the cases in the frame until I got the parts and machine work done. They got a bike with no engine internals!

I hope your ride comes back as good or better and with not too many more miles on it.

So along these lines, what do you all do to prevent theft?
Fork lock?
Caliper lock?
Alarm?
Something else?

I don't have a high crime rate where I live, but I always worry. What's the best method of prevention?

Yes glad to hear you got it back it one piece. When I was younger I rode a new Honda 350 from NY to Fl. I was there for a couple of weeks, and had a job. My NY insurance ran out, so for one week while I was waiting for my first check to get FL insurance, the bike was stolen, along with another Honda 450. Well a few weeks went by and the local PD called and said they found it in an orange grove, and brought it to their impound garage. My bike was completly strip except for the motor and frame. The 450 was just burned. To make a longer story short the PD wanted me to pay them $15 for towing. Well my brother had a station wagen and when we went to pick it up the guy said it was around back.(there impound place was just a gas station) Well we loaded it up and took off. I wasn't going to pay $15. I sold the frame and motor for $150. The sad part was I still had a year to go on payments for the bike. Sob story over. Glad you got yours back.

Matt,

Always wondered what happen as the thread just died off. I'm glad everything worked out in the end.

I'm always amaused how they can registar stolen bikes and cars, my wifes brother had his Prowler stolen in Il. and the police found it in WI. only after the guy who stole it girlfriend got mad and set his house on fire.

Some local cop had a gut feeling that something was not right and ran the VIN # and it came back stolen, but the car was legally registered and insuranced under this guys name and he used the VIN # to do it.

The guy put 2,000 miles on your bike, the law should be you get to put:

TWO THOUSAND MILES OF ROAD RASH ON HIS MISERABLE A**.

I'm so glad to hear your bike was recovered in reasonably good condition. Forgive me, but I am curious. Was the wiring or ignition damaged from where the bike was started, or were the keys left in the vehicle during transport?
