Ditto this on both counts. I can't imagine riding at night WITHOUT the light bar. Doubles the field of vision and visibility to others. A win both ways.

On the sissy bar - you mentioned getting the short one but I'd urge you to consider the tall model. The short model is supposedly so short it doesn't add much comfort - sits too low on the back. My fiancee really likes the tall bar.
