Rear pads need changing and after reading other posts decided to buy EBC Sintered.
Triumph dealer advised me not to use anything other than triumph parts other wise warranty would be void if anything was to go wrong with disc (rotor).

There are a number of ways to look at this.

1. Triumph parts are dearer so dealer trying to make more money.

2. Dealer knows there is a problem with disc (rotor Warping) and telling truth.

3. Triumph in UK take the p***

Interested in your take as alot of you seem to have dealers who seem to use common sense and remove AI install mods when bike is new, cant do anything over here.

Four dealers around 50 mile from me all say same thing.

What makes this worse is they all sell AI removal kit, EBC pads
Warranty void if above used.

What do you think.

Quoted
Cost of 1st service £160 5000miles.

Changing pads myself before bike goes in for service.

1 hours work 2 at most must be £50 an hour labour charge.

Curious. When my dealer replaced the warped front rotor under warranty, they said I was going to have to pay for new pads as they could not reinstall the old ones (something about a part that wears, warped rotor and worn pads, something). They recommended an upgrade EBC pad. They didn't say the stockers were worthless, but they couldn't very well say that now could they! As soon as I got the machine home I replaced the rear with EBCs. That should have absolutely no effect on the warranty.

Danny,

We have discussed this topic before and the jury is still out. EBC makes pads for our bikes with different materials, standard, Kevlar, and sintered. Our discussion in the past has been whether the sintered pads would cause accelerated wear on the rotors, as sintered pads contain powdered metal for greater wear/longer life. Several members are using them, but none have mentioned any rotor wear yet. A standard, or even a Kevlar set of pads should not void your warranty, but the sintered pads could generate more wear and heat than the rotor is designed for. Like I said, nobody using them has reported any problem, but it could be an issue. If your dealer tells you he won't back you up if you use something aftermarket, you're pretty much up a stump...

As to not reusing worn pads when a rotor has been replaced due to warpage, well, that makes sense. The pads are probably worn uneven and on a fresh rotor surface that could cause problems all over again.

More flags More fun!

I haven't heard of anyone reporting a bad rear disc, any problem seems to be on the front only (just ask Adey)

When I was on my US trip, had to use different dealers for service etc according to where I was. None had problems putting on EBC front pads rather than Trump, one even fitted sintered without my knowledge (hated the pads by the way)! At no time did anyone mention that there would be a warranty issue if the disc went bad.

When I got my latest bike from Hughenden M40 (Thame Oxon) not only did they fit TOR's for me, but they also took out the AI system( I supplied the kit) at the same time! Again there was no mention of warranty issue when they fitted the AI kit, (but also not shown on invoice)

Don't know about service cost as haven't got that high yet, but the interval has been changed to 6000 miles so if you can do the pads yourself, maybe you can delay the service for another 1000 miles?

Take it easy

Shaun

Thanks for that Guys

Guess I'll stick with triumph pads for time being, will save a few pounds on labour cost by doing job myself.

Thanks for advice

Safe Riding

As well as the sintered, I have also had EBC "normal" pads and these were fine, will be fitting them when mine need changing. Was only the sintered ones I didn't like ( didn't seem to work too well, and also a lot of noise.)That said, there are others here who really like the sintered. Don't pay over the odds for the Trump ones - you can get EBC from a bike shop or their website EBC Brakes
