Then there's the theory that the angle of the snorkel somehow helps with the airflow into the box. There's also those who might believe that the snorkel helps keep water from getting in. Maybe that's why some cut off just the bottom of the snorkel...the part that covers the air filter.
But then I ran my bike for over 2 years with the whole snorkel pulled out, and I didn't find any evidence of water getting in. Hey, I'm just passing along what I've read on the net....and you know how that goes. Just laying out the options.
