Now.....thats a question thats never been asked before. Use the search feature and just enter the word Mileage and you will get all kinds of results.
Your mileage may vary.

You know.. funny you posted this question here as it does have a lot to do with riding technique. I get just shy of 50 mpg two up or just me if I behave.

Just messin witcha. Indeed mileage does vary with riding habits ....If you are an agressive rider it well may be less and if you are a smooth riding by the book rider your mileage will be better.
I often get at least 160 miles to a topped off tank highway riding.

I fill up every 130 miles, Still have not ridden to the point where I have to switch to reserve, guess I should do that just to find out.

Andy, a lot has to do with how full you fill the tank. I always run unil I hit reserve and then make a point of buying gas within 20 miles. I could hit reserve anywhere from 120 to 150 depending on riding conditions.

Congrats on the Speedy. Obviously a man of taste. I've had as low as 24mpg when I was hauling asss, normally in the low 30's though. This is between 90 and 120 miles on the main tank. By the way, try rotating the bars down 'til they barely clear the tank, it straightens out the wrist and seems more comfortable.

You say you just got the speedmaster? Is it new? If so, your mileage will increase over time as you break it in more.
One thing that will really help is to watch your RPMs. I try to run my bike between 4000 and 5000 RPMs, with the sweet spot for power/mileage at 4500 RPMs.

Just this last weekend in Prescott at the Southwest Fest, I checked mine regularly and was kind of surprised.
First of all, I have a Speedmaster with the stock (16T) front sprocket. (And I like it, don't try to convert me). While riding mostly twisties I tend to keep the engine turning from 5000rpm to near 7500. And get nearly 50mpg.
On the slab at 5000-5500rpm, it falls to around 40mpg. Must have a lot to do with aerodynamics.

we should do this every weekend!

Worst 43, best 57. Other odometers agreed with the distance traveled, so it is reasonably accurate. And, Speedmasters get a bit less fuel economy because they are geared lower, which means the engine turns more times per mile, sucking up excess fuel.

you won't get the high MPG until after the break-in period. i got 100 on the dot before switching to reserve. have since had an oil change and now it should be higher.

Depends on how fast you run on the slab.. more speed = more fuel consumption.

It's all in the formula: Fat Guy + Large Windshield X 90 MPH = 33 MPG I always hit reserve at 100 miles like that

It's the wind resistance at higher speeds. As I said, running consistently higher engine speed, but lower road speed on twisty roads, I get significantly better fuel mileage than I do at high road speed with lower engine speed.

56mpg - I'll probably have to be coasting off a mountain to get that.

My only question is: What primary gear are you running & how fast were you riding or what was your tach turning most of the time? thanks man, Kenny Nichols

something other than a fly windshield will give you more mileage.one that has a nice curve to it and that flips up at the top...However if you get one with out the flip it will give you more fresh air.Even Harley Davidson proved a windscreen will give you more MPG and of coarse the ridiabilty at higher speeds will increase 15-20mph.I've run the Triumph fly screen & the Dart Fly screen from England---it was a lot better than the Triumph...but it is not the answer...I need to look harder on the net...I had the right one but forgot where it was...if I find it..I'll post it...All said and done--the wind package cleans up the width of a persons body about the size of an oversized basket ball--in otherwords--your chest & gut... I will keep your informed... Kenny

About 160-170 Miles was all highway pretty much 65mph. I have a 16T Front & 42T Rear Rpm's stayed between 3500 & 4000. Just lazy cruising. The other 30 or so miles were back roads of CT 3rd & 4th gear also around 3500 to 4000 Rpm. Don't get me wrong when i drive all city i get 40 on a good day. Something to do with beating everybody to the next light.

I average 42. I have a city commute, so the throttle is either on or off. We do run the slab on occasion, but most people drive 75mph around here (the legal posted is 65 or 70 depending on where you are at).
