You guys will be going within 12 miles of my home at some point of the trip. I am scheduled to work that weekend but I am going to try and get off. Can you tell me the tentative travel schedule in terms of where you expect to be on given days (roughly). I can meet you all at the Sioux end or the Thunderbay end depending on travel plans. I live near the very tip of Lake Superior on the Wisconsin side, 20 miles south of the Cities of Superior/Duluth. I am pretty sure that Loco, Elfwolf, Dave and Ldisney from the site can be coerced into at least connecting for a meet at the very least in Duluth. Can't get past Duluth and Superior and make it back East!
The "North Shore" Minnesota side is awesome. Come prepared to freeze going along the Lake it can be 40 degrees colder in an instant so bring warm gear and gloves with or you will be sorry. Trust me in this I have to deal with "the lake affect" everyday I go to work, and the weather reports mean NOTHING! Went for a jaunt up the shore and the weather schedule for the entire day? 67 and partly cloudy. What it ended up? 42 and pouring rain. Be prepared for it.

thanks for the first hand info, Eddy. i've been packing, in my head, and something told me i would definitely need to bring some warm gear.
it would be great if we could meet up for a spell.

I'm with Eddy on this one, I'm sure we can get a little gathering going on this side of the lake, but since it may be mid-week when the crew comes thru, would like to have a tenative date to shoot for....
For many reasons right now, I can't do the full loop, but would like to hook up for some of it........

Ed,
Sorry you and Vicki can't make it. BUMMER!
Matt,
What's the story with your little bro'? He interested?
Eddy/Jeff,
I put together a loose itinerary this morning and sent it off to Shari and John. Pending their approval we will be able to give you time estimates on when we will be on that side of the lake. Will keep you informed.
Had totally planned on full leather, gloves, face mask etc. for the trip. Can't think of a better time to head to the great white north than August but have been up that way before and realize how chilly it can get even then. Good info though.
Ride On!

Keith, I am interested in when you may hit Souix St Marie and even Thunderbay as well as Duluth. I am hoping to join you all at either those points if I can get the time off for me it is possible. I understand your schedules are loose and don't expect you to accomadate, but I am willing to "catch up" if I can co-ordinate by running backwards into you and ride back. Would just be cool to hook up for a ride one way or another. Working it on this end, but I have had my work schedule keep me from two other events this year already. At very least if I can't get off work, you have an invite for a tour of the helicopter, three blocks off where you will drive past. eddy

Ed, Would love to have you along for the ride even if it is only part. I`m trying the convince Keith to spend at least part of a day in Thunder Bay. I`ve never been but have always heard nice things about it. Jeff, It would be great to see you again and ride for a few miles. Ed & Vicki, I`m sorry to here it. It would have been great to have you along and I would have loved to have shown you guys around my area as well. Bill, Wish you could come but if this works out I`m sure I`ll have the itch to do it again. Matt, What`s your brother say.

Hey John, Shari Keith and Eddy....meeting in Thunderbay sounds cool....are you doing the Canada side first - or is it still up in the air? If we pick a motel, campground or cabin to meet in the afternoon or evening, then the timing isn't a big factor....and then ride south in the morning, which is a great ride. Makes a great little 2 day vacation (around 700 miles for me). I had all last week off (went to the Black Hills ) so I have to watch the days off....
You should plan a few hours to check out the Duluth/Superior area also....very nice.

we're still undecided on this small detail...though the cabibhotelcampground meet up is a good thing to shoot for. might just push us into making a decision; rather than flying by the seats of our motorcycles .

Thunder Bay is great, Old Fort William is a good stop for site seeing, the ride down the the North Shore is awesome.
It is looking pretty good for me at this point, I may be able to meet you on the "Sioux" side of the UP(Sault Ste. Marie, and Upper Peninsulas of Michigan) I'll shoot across the route you'll be taking on the way back and connect for your ride into the Canada side. I'll only need the day you cross and about 8 hours headway to rendezvous with you 400 miles for me to get to that point.

I think we are planning on being in the St. Ignace/Sault Ste. Marie area Sunday evening'ish, spend the night and then head out around the lake. Not sure if we are going clockwise or counter yet but I really don't think it truly matters one iota. Will keep you informed.

Well, if you guys go the South Side first it will make a smidge easier for me to get the time off...but still no guarantee. I could meet you Monday as you come through here and I could get to ride the best of the trip with you through the North Shore and into Canada and back. But that is your call as it still is not a certainty for me because of work.
But then again actually, I can back track you into the Canadian side (if you go north first)even if I don't get the days off and run into you on the North Shore during my scheduled days off starting the 8th...but I suspect I should be able to at least get Wed the 7th off at minimum and then I am good to play catch up.
Really trying to make this work.

We are a decisive bunch aren't we. If it makes it earier for Eddy to meet up with us then I say let's do the south side first.

I'll let you all know if something changes that would affect your choices of direction. Since my schedule is the unknown object here. I just looked at the schedule..if I don't get the days off your best bet is going north first, that will give you a 9 hour ride to Thunder Bay, going south is an 8 hour ride to Duluth. Worst case for me is I don't get the days and you go south you'll hit Duluth on Monday around after noon and I don't get off till 1830 I won't get to vistit (worst case scenario) OK, let me whine a little, this is the thrid time now I have wanted and tried to go somewhere this year with Rallies and rides and my schedule gets in the way and ...ok, I am done...happpy thoughts...deep cleansing breath ...I'm better now. If you all can be flexible for my inflexible job, that would be cool. I really want to get to meet you all, if you can't I totally understand. Helicopter tour no matter what when you blow into town. eddy

Well Thunder Bay nah...I guess I better specify, since I don't have the "keys"...it's a static tour even in Duluth. Speaking of Thunder Bay....do we have to have Passports to go into Canada right now? I know that it is coming soon but have they made it a requirement yet? Or worse (not really worse John) ...would they let us back into the US? eddy

Mert...done deal. Unless of course they are on a flight when you all come through...let's just hope eh? I just got back from a run up the North Shore to go to the graduation of a kid who fell 40 feet down a cliff. I was involved in the rescue. Wow, was it an incredible adventure. He lived to talk about it and it was really good to see him. Anyway, I was thinking about you guys on my ride up and back. Your going to just absolutely love the North Shore (even if it is cold) but it may well be warm too you just never know. It is so cool! Here is a shot of the shore (and the place where the kid fell)

Eddy,
No you don't need a passport as of yet. It keeps getting pushed back more and more. As of early this year it was January 2008 and now it's been pushed back to Summer 2008. Oh and that is just to get back into the states. Birth certificate and driver's license is all that is required for Canadian entry.
Love the shot, I can't wait to see this stuff.

I'm thinking/working on it...but I have a court date on the 2nd at 2:30 (no way no how can I avoid this - personal family court thing with the X) which means at the very earliest I could escape at 6pm, and it's a good 6 hours to wojo's. Maybe I'll do the NH rally again, I need a bath anyway. Still up in the air so to speak.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.
