Sure Keith and I have gone back and forth about doing this but now we've got the dates locked down and our starting point.

We'll be leaving from my place near Windsor, Ontario on Monday, August 6 and heading north we'll ride the circumference of Lake Superior until Friday, August 10. The trip will take us through Ontario, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. The whole thing shouldn't take more than the five days and that at a very leisurely pace.

Keith and a few others, not to be mentioned yet until confirmation, will be arriving at my place on Friday, August 3 or Saturday, August 4 for a couple of days of just relaxing by the pool, barbequeing and riding around scaring the locals. There is plenty of room so if a few more want to join us here you are more than welcome but bring your own bathing trunks.

I'll post an official route when I work one up so if anyone wants to join us during the ride or for just part of it you will me welcome as well.

The more the merrier.

John, pity you weren't doing this run of yours just a few days earlier. The CAV is having our annual National Run in Kenora this year, August 3-6. I suspect you'll end up in that neck of the woods...? Would be good to meet you.

David,

The dates have been set and it took us forever to get those, due to me I admit. It would be good to meet you and maybe have you ride with us for a bit as well. Keep an eye on this thread and hopefully our two schedules will work out.

As John said, took us a while to get this ironed out but now we finally have a plan to start with. I figure I am heading to John's (Windsor'ish) from Chi'town that Friday evening or Saturday morning. Hang in his area for the day or two and then off we go. I have put together a map of the trip around the lake. This does not get us to the "Round Lake Superior" starting point but shows a potential path around the lake. If any wanna join us for the whole ride, let us know. If any wanna join us for part of the ride, let us know. The plans are still in the formative process so this is the time to let us know so if we need to set up an itinerary, we can. I think this is gonna be a fun one and there will probably be some good roads to see and beautiful countryside to enjoy, even if most of it is in Canada.

So anyhow, if your interested in this one please share your thoughts. We can make things work and have a buttload of fun in the process.

Bill,

Yeah, the way I mapped it, the trip around the lake itself is right at about 1360 miles. This does not count getting up to a starting point and getting to and from home. I mapped out my entire trip and it rolls in at about 2400 miles. Should be a good week. Can't think of a better time to head north and enjoy a little cooler weather than what we normally get here in Chi'town around that time.

John, sounds like a good ride, too bad I'm already on vacation around that time up in Algonquin Park. I'll manage to get to one of these get togethers...someday.

How long do you figure it'll take to ride around that massive body?

Around the lake itself, I have it mapped out at a total of about 1350 miles. This is not counting the trip to and from the starting point. Figure you do about 275 a day (light riding days) it'll take 5 days. Time to stop and smell the pine trees so to speak. Should be a beautiful trip. You gonna' ride out and join us?

I don't think so. I was really just curious. I hope you get a good turn out though.

Y'all couldn't have planned this for the week including 4th of July, could ya? I just got my new schedule and I'll have the whole week off (Friday the 29th through Sunday the 8th) with nowhere to go. Well, nowhere yet but I'm sure I can find something. Maybe I'll take my Daytona up to Northern Va via the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive or something.

'Tis about a month away. Who we got going? I know we have John and myself. Anybody else not making the whole trip but wanna' meet up with us somewhere along the way? Let us know so we can at least do a loose itinerary. Gotta' start looking for/setting up motels and/or campgrounds. The clock is starting to tick, if ever so seemingly slower and slower as the time draws near.

Okay, okay. I'm here. I've been durn busy the last couple of weeks with a play I'm in and working lots of hours for this week and next.

Nobody has contacted me or anyone else that I know about. So it looks like myself, Keith, Shari and Matt's little brother?!?

Everyone is coming here first to my place for the weekend before. I'm not too concerned about the route, I was hoping to get us together here and then we can discuss it over some refreshments. I think it would be better to go through Michigan first and then around the lake instead of the Canadian side, that would add a day but if everyone is interested the more the merrier.

If everyone wants I can put together a schedule if Keith hasn't already but I was really thinking of playing this one by ear.

What was everyone thinking about for lodgings? We're we thinking about camping or just straight motels?
