Melvin, all of these hypenated Americans have put themselves in the boxes. It may be a reaction to racist terminology, but it's often an overreaction, and gets to be ridiculous. As an example, several years ago a newscaster was commenting on some troubles somewhere in Africa and refered to the native people as African-American
. He just didn't know what term to use to separate the historically indigenous people from those of European ancestry. Of course, the talking heads aren't the brightest bulbs on the string.
