Just got my Freak in today. I am going to attempt to put it in tomorrow and do the AI at the same time. Two quick questions. If I don't rejet right away will it hurt anything. Second if I don't have a bike jack can I still get the stock air box out.

When I installed the Freak, I rejetted because I would rather have a richer mixture than lean. Started with the supplied 160s which turned out to be way too rich even when I put on Epco pipes. I went down to 155s and finally settled on 150s. The only way to get the airbox out without jacking is to cut the heck out of it. Many people have done it this way so if you don't have a jack and don't care about saving the airbox, rip that sucker out of there! i do to if you need help, what part of mass? i stayed with the 160's and 2 shims on the needle when i did mine.

Thanks for the quick responses. I live in Worcester but will be working on it in Holden where I keep it garaged. About 10 min. away. With the rain tomorrow I don' think NH is in the forecast. So long as I wont' hurt anything my main goal is the AI and Freak. Jets can be done after that. If I get jammed up you will all hear a scream for some more help here tomorrow evening .

Mine is 155/45/TBS w 1 shim, and custom fishtails w/ 10" sansom baffles
2002 Bandit 1200/ GSXR cams/ 1277 BB Kit/ Holeshot header and can/ 38mm flatslides/ a good head/lotsa hp/lotsa tq- lots of rear tires...

You basically have to get the carbs out to do the freak anyway, you may as well re-jet then. Also, the whole point of the freak is more power, why short change it by not re-jetting? When you pull out the airbox (or hack it up with a dremel like me), and BEFORE you put in the freak brackets, that is the PERFECT time to pull the carbs and re-jet. You'll NEVER have easier access.
Also, it's one of those things that is scary to think about, but once you get started you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner.

You posted to late Benny. Already left to go work on the bike. Thats the bad news. Good news is AI removed and Freak is on. Now I just need to hook up with someone that knows what they are doing with the carbs. Took it for a little ride up and down the street. Seems to be almost hesitating. Mabye not warmed up enough. Tomorrow going to go see if I can pull the second baffle's out of the stock pipes.

Took everyone's advice and did the rejetting today with the supplied 160's. Went well. Copied the web pages from Pat's web site to a memory stick and brought a laptop with me. Great instructions.  BIG THANK YOU to Pat. Nothing like having a show and tell right there when you are doing something. Took the bike out for a quick ride in between rain showers. Seems to be running good. Good throttle response above 4,000 rpm's. Thanks again to everyone.

Good!!! Keep playing, especially with the air screws, etc. You may find the need for TBS needles, maybe 155s eventually. The needles are SUPER easy to put in.

yeah, TBS needles are great and I also think one of my most important adjustments was the air mixture screws. Once I got that right, everything was nice and smooth with no problems since  .
Staintune Pipes, K&N Pods, 45 pilots, TBS needles and 145 mains.

oddly enough, my air screws are not equal. I finally got it dialed in- the port carb is 3.25 and the stbd carb is 2.75.

I did the Freak a couple of days ago, and I'm certainly happy with the noticeable performance gain and the sound is way cool! I've found that at highway speeds...110-120 kph + if I twist the throttle full on it dies...backing off 1/8 turn and it picks up again...160's too rich? Pat's jetting calculator tells me 153.5 or so for my setup. Maybe 150's would be better?

I'm happy with 155s and TBS needles. Also adjust the air mix screws.

155s and 48s here and I'm happy. Might bump my 48s down to 45s though. I have yet to try the TBS needles though I do plan on it. My mixture screws are not even on either of our bikes either. Glad to hear it's not just me!

Brian,
With all the work you have done you definiently need to re-balance your carbs, you will be surprized how well the bike will run after you balance the carbs.

How did you troubleshoot that to finally come up with those numbers. What were your symptoms

I have the same #@$%#$^@ problem. The low and midrange are WAAAY better, but in upper 4th and all of 5th gears she's downright piggy. It's driving me nuts! I've rejetted at least 4 times now (I've gotten way to proficient at it), and while I"m running 155/45s the plugs look lean! *sigh*
I'm going to get her dynoed and sniffed next week, hopefully, and they can give me a definitive answer on what the ****** I need to do.
Also, I'm having the lopsided airscrew issue as well -- the starboard cylinder is at like 2.5 turns and the port side is at like 3 -- otherwise I get fireballs out the right side on decel!!

No, I need to do that. I'm guessing it's rich too, but honestly I've been stepping it up in small increments from 150 (the lowest I was comfortable going with the GhettoFREAK setup) and she's ALWAYS been piggy on the top end. Not bogging, mind you -- I've had that feeling before -- but just like she can't quite pull in 5th gear.
I put a 17T sprocket on there a while back and I'm thinking of dropping back to a 16 to see if that helps. There's GOBS of power on the low and midrange -- so I certainly did somethign right -- but it's just really in 5th gear that she runs out of juice.
I"ll try to balance the carbs when I get a chance, tho.

If you are running those jets and still show a lean condition you should start looking for vacume leaks IMO.
