update:
decided to take a trip to autozone to see if they carried any oil suitable for the speedmaster.... couldn't justify paying an extra 20 bucks or so for postage when i could get something just as good down the road.
checked on the tech vault and found the list of oil and filters that fit our bikes.
went with Mobile 1 "V twin" 20w-50 oil and a bosch 3300 filter. hope it holds up. took it out for a short test run and no immediate affects. a case of oil and the oil filter costs right at 55 bucks. When i picked the bike up from the dealer i asked how much the first oil change would cost he said "150 bucks".
figure there's some accesseroy or something i could buy with that 95 dollars i saved.

p.s. had one HELLUVA time getting that original oil filter off. took at least an hour of prodding and cursing.
