Someone posted about using a garden sprayer to clean the chain. That sounds like a helluva good idea. I'm thinking some heated bulk WD 40 through a garden sprayer would do a fine job, followed by a heavier lube to follow. I've been reading a number of reports of long term WD 40 use as a cleaner on O ring chains with no damage done. I'd be inclined to believe that's true. It's not a great lube, but it's a fine solvent.
