I'm in love. They gave me a sprint for a loaner. This is my first time on a bike like this. What a rush. The choice was between an America,(I couldn't deal with the stock pipes again), a Blue and Cream R3 (didn't want to take it and have to give it back) And the Sprint, I figured it was the sport touring choice of BA.com (Adey and Greg at least), I'll give it a shot. I never figured slab riding would be that much fun.

... but your not in love, its just a short lived infatuation- just wait till the newness wears off and the pain sets in. You'll be crawlin back to your bike!
Its nice that you got a loaner, had a choice and picked something completely different. its a nice break.

I hate you. I'd really like to have a Sprint, but have a feeling that it'd get me in way too much trouble. If you wanna ride a Thruxton for a while, we can make something happen...

Whats funny Mark is I went there trying to get a Thrux. But it was already out on demo.

I'm moving up to MA in June, and am really tempted on trading the Thrux for a Sprint or Guzzi, but will probably be back in NYC after a year and a half or so, and the Thrux is perfect for what I ask of it in and out of town.

Well I put 920 miles on the Sprint this weekend and had to return her this morning. That bike affected me like no other I have ridden it was just amazing. But it was also like a free exchange program into the world of a squid rider. I tried hard not to act like one, but now I kind of understand why they act like they do. That bike made me feel like a much better rider than I think I am. I'm probably selling some toys and picking up a used sport bike this summer.
Anyway back to my Speedy. The dealer got in a huge box of parts this morning. Complete with new cases for my bike. All bright and shiny with out me even washing her. So barring all problems I should be back up and running by this weekend. Hopefully... knock on a cdi box just for luck.

Its closing in a month and it still hasn't been started. This is really starting to annoy me. Yes its a warranty job, and I'm sure they are making more money doing the other work. But this is ridiculous. I bought a new bike so I could ride when I wanted to ride. Not so I could sit around and not have a machine. Is this me over reacting or is this justified. They will give me another loaner for the weekend but to me this isn't the point.

You are not over-reacting. I would demand a time frame.

With the next loaner, I just might forget to bring it back until my bike was done......hmmmmm?

Stewart I think thats why they wouldn't give me one for the whole time from the very beginning. They were anticipating this problem.

Dill,
Maybe a couple of weeks, but a month and they have not touched it yet. The fact they will give you a loaner is a good start, but if you asked them if you can keep the loaner until your bike is done, I'm sure they would start working on it right away.
And NO I do not think you are being unreasonable in getting a little peeved at this point.

Well they gave me the Sprint until my bike is fixed. The problem is that the bonnie that suffered the same problem is hogging a lift and has 2 parts backordered. So I will deal. But having a bike again is helping me cope.

Okay I picked up my bike today. All freshly rebuilt under warranty. Yes it took awhile but overall I'm happy with the process. Unfortunately the dealer had already put the broken parts in storage was busy when I got there this morning so I didn't get to take a look. The whole list is out on in the saddlebag. But basically cases, mainbearings, gaskets, starter sprag assm., and igniter (which is brit for CDI right?).
Boy was going from the sprint to the speedy was really weird. It felt like I had ape hangers and was draggin my rear on the pavement. I had forgotten how light the speedy was. She does handle well, and I like not having to worry about every pavement crack and defect sucking me in. I can finally put on my satin tunes and UNI which I got in 2 days after she went into the shop.

Glad to hear you're back on your own 2 wheels. I guess 5 weeks isn't too bad considering all the work you had done and the time of year?

So, she's back! Good news, Dill!
I know what you mean about getting accustomed to one riding position and then going back to the other. It IS kind'a weird at first, ain't it?!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Hey, don't talk about my 2nd love like that!
Great news on getting your bike back. Perhaps you, Mark, and myself should go get a Sprint and each keep it a few months. LOL.

I'm going on a long ride this weekend, and it will be interesting to see what I like better. I put a little more than 2k on that sprint, and I really liked it. Except that both times I had to return there were gusty cross winds on the highway, which was not fun at all. It was a serious change of riding style. That sprint was more comfortable than I ever thought. Ryan thats not a bad idea you could have it Nov through Feb.

I think 20-30mph+ crosswinds are a PIA no matter what bike you're on. I've done enough of them on the Speedmaster, and it's definitely work to keep it tracking straight, especially if the wind is gusting and you're doing 75-80 mph on the slab.

Well the wind was the same on the way back and it was much easier on the speedmaster than the taller st with the full side fairings. Now the wind blast into the face at 80+ was different going from sport fairing to no shield cruiser. If I commuted slab everyday I would get the sprint now. However I ride mostly 2 lane state roads.

So I thought I would bring this back to the front again. 2 weeks ago, my starter quit up in Lincoln NH but this time I had spark. The sprag clutch went again meaning I need a whole new case rebuild just like last time. I cant tell you how ****** off I am right now. I got less than 1000 miles out of this last motor rebuild. Yes Triumph is paying for it, but at this point I don't think that is enough.

So what you are saying is that it wasnt the fault of the CDI this time. Hmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know what it is like to have warranty work done at the local dealer though. My rocket3 had a bolt fall out inside the tranny and I burned up the clutch trying to get her home, right in the middle of summer. Dealer had her for 8 weeks, but a lot of that was because of how long it took to get Triumph to cover the clutch. Rocket3 clutch job= Expensive!!!! Luckily i had a speed3 in the garage too, so wasnt off 2 wheels. Mark

So here is the repair history 6/21/07 Broken Sprag clutch (long list of new stuff) 7/20/07 Vibration= new front tire (evidently they had a bad batch)warranty 08/30/07 Oil cooler leaks (oil cooler replaced) 08/30/07 Lost 2 igniters (I lost one they lost the other swapping out) new igniter and sensor 06/15/08 Sprag clutch is broken
Not to mention these Sprag clutch rebuilds take a month or so.

So nothing from Carlieo yet, in fact I was wondering if he was still working for Triumph until I read that other thread about the valve problems. I have to say I understand why some people would get fed up with Triumph. It probably won't be back until sometime in mid july. I only put on 2000 miles last year and about 400 this year.
