I'm near your age, just back from 3500 miles in 12 days. My back is a bit tricky and I know I could not do any serious riding without risers, footboards and corbin seat with backrest - maybe you'll be luckier.

My recommendations to stay out of trouble would be to keep your says to 200-250 miles. Stop several times to get the kinks out and stretch your back. If you find yourself in pain, ibuprophen and a hot soak.
