Well, my stock petcock worked great until this morning with 350kms on my bike...no leaks, but it's stubborn to move from the OFF position. I observed that the inner petcock part( that's the part with the handle) will detent into the petcock housing when selected to the OFF position. When you move the handle to the ON or RES position, the inner part pops out of that detent position. So I'm thinking that if I could get some lubricant between the inner part and the housing, it may help to pop the inner part out when turned. I want to try a penetrating spray lube that I have...it's not WD-40....but it's safe for plastic, rubber, etc.
I could go with a Pingel, but right now, if I can solve this stickiness with a lube, it would be worth a try.
Has anybody tried a penetrating spray lube for this? Any problems that you think might develope with the rubber seal?
Thanks all.

I don't have a solution since I never tried to fix mine but I can tell you mine has been doing that almost since I had the bike. 11,000 miles and this is my 3rd summer and no leaks just have to turn harder. Wendys bike doesn't have the problem. Hers turns easily.

Mine did that for about a month, then it got better. After another month, it was easy to turn.

I've used WD40 on occation, but after a week or so it stiffens up again. If what your going to use has more lubrication in it I'd say go for it.

I had the same problem with mine last year after about 600 miles. Spray lube did not help. The o-ring inside the petcock was bad. I replaced it with an o-ring from the hardware store. The petcock comes apart with one screw. Just make sure you drain the tank before taking the petcock apart. After taking it apart and seeing how it was constructed I bought a Pingel to replace the stock petcock.
