I had cleaning rags and polish, but by the time I got there Sunday I had to get into the swing of things with the show registration - my first time doing it, and I did not know what I was to do, or what I was in for. Piece of cake. I'm under that kind of fire all day every day at work.
I registered my own bike first, but had to get somebody else to go park it for me!
I really don't think the shine and sparkle is what "wins" a show award - more the uniqueness of the machine, and what other bikes are in the same classification. It's popular vote, and a lot of the voters do not know a lot about what they are looking at....and some just vote for one bike in the whole show and that is all - they just vote for somebody they know. Don't let the dirt stop you next year!
By the way - the wierd looking dude that holds the poker run ("Fun Run") was hauled off in an ambulance Saturday night right after dinner, and from Brenham they moved him to College Station. I hear he is on a respirator, and may have had a mild heart attack. They took another "heart attack victim away with him from the rally, but that guy was back out at the show Sunday I heard.
"Twitchy" they call him (his name is David Porter) has had several asthmatic attacks over the last few months, and I even heard he has inoperable lung cancer. Still smoking like a smoke stack....can't give it up.
I have ridden with him several times - planning the poker run routes with him last year and this, and rendeveauing with others for a crawfish boil we had back in the Spring - he rides more than anyone else I know and has three Triumphs in the garage - an Adventurer, a red America, and a Rocket III. He alternates on a different bike nearly every ride!
Anyway, I hope he is alright, but information is hard to come by. Thought you might have noticed the ambulance and commotion out there Saturday night.
