The paint is chipping<not pealing>on the top rim inside the gas tank.
I am almost positive it is my fault because of me bumping it with the nozzle when I put gas in.
Although I have never had this problem with any other bike I had.
Any suggestions on how to fix the paint chips,or just dont worry about it?

This happened with my Speedmaster, and the tank was replaced under warranty. From previous postings on this forum I understand that there is a batch of badly painted tanks out there. I'd take it to your dealer and ask them about a warranty replacement.

Thanks for replying.
The dealer is closed till Tuesday for the July 4th Holiday.
Will he have to take the tank off & send it to Triumph for a warranty verification?

I had the same trouble with my "03. The tank was replaced but the replacement was worse. The dealer then took a razorblade and sandpaper to the inside. Be sure if they propose this that the tech. is talented in paint matters. They cleaned it up nicely in my situationjeff

I don't ever rememer this problem with any of the other bikes I have owned. At my age, I can't remember if the gas tank filler was chromed, painted, bare metal....... oh well, I still like to ride....

My dealer took some photos of the tank and emailed them to Triumph. Triumph agreed that it was a warranty job and sent a new tank to the dealer who fitted it as part of the first annual service.

after two years (warranty almost up) i'm beginning to get some evidence of rust??? mine's doing this too on the back bone part near the filler hole. i think it's from the gas nossel hitting it, but i don't think it should be rusting after 2 years. i guess i'll have to ask the dealer...

The dealer does not have to send your tank or any other parts back to Triumph. He just needs to make a "warranty request". This can be done in about a day (Mon-Fri).
They will tell him immediately if it is covered or not.
Hope this helps.

Took pictures of the tank into the dealer.
He said he would find out if Triumph would cover it.
Also told me to sand it down a little & put some clear nail polish on it.

I went to Target & bought a bottle of yellow & clear nail polish.
I put two coats of yellow & two coats of clear on.
Five hours later it seems fine.
The jury is still out on how it will hold up.

My TBS had the same problem, except the is no chrome dash to hide it if it gets worse- My local dealer could not/would not get it warrantied (I won't go there anymore). So I cut around the top with a razor blade and scraped off the flaking paint- Has not gotten any worse. Now my SM is staring to do it....

The nail polish is not working to well.
Anybody got any other suggestions?
If I would just scrape the paint out off the neck & leave it bare, would it rust?
