As one of the legion of geezers 'round here who bought another bike after xx years, I like to think I'm at least OK at the helm of a motorcycle. What I need to remember is my ability to concentrate ain't what it was 20 or 30 years ago, and so I tend to daydream a bit while riding.
I stumbled upon this site the other day
http://home1.gte.net/res0ak9f/bike.htmAt the least, I would suggest scrolling to the movies section, and perhaps a view of the road rash pictures in lower sections. They're solid reminders of what can happen.
I need to warn the squeamish, that it's a might gruesome in some places, but it certainly does drive home the point of protective clothing, and keep heads up every inch of the ride. It is in the abstract sense, a web site partially devoted to how not to ride a motorcycle.
Our old friend Road Rash Girl is in there. I'd like to thank her for inspiring me last Fall to buy mesh clothing for Summer. At 90 degrees & humid the other day, I was perfectly comfortable with 1/2 helmet, boots just tall enough at above the ankle, Summer gloves, & mesh pants and coat. Last Summer, I was a T shirt and no helmet guy. That's fine for some, and it's not my place to say that's right or wrong, but apparently I needed to see her long term plight to help get over the "It can't happen to me" sense of denial.
(I will admit to wearing shorts under the mesh pants, but hey, nobody's perfect.)
