Gday all
Im starting to get little scratches at the seat end of my fuel tank from zippers on my clothes etc. Wanting to know of best solution (besides getting rid of my zippers). Those leather tank bib thingies, are they a one size fits all and who would sell them.

I think Triumph do their own leather strips for down the middle of the tank.

Hey Derek,
I have the stock Triumph tank bib for exactly that reason, the belt buckle on my leather would have been hitting my tank- I picked it up at the dealership when I bought the bike. I haven't seen any aftermarket ones, but I'd be interested in seing some.

You could always try something like this.

We use a similar product on our loaner cars and it holds up pretty good. I think I'm going to have the guy that does it do my tank.

I bought one of these:

Haven't decided if I should put it on yet. It's a Triumph Thunderbird Sport Tank Pad #A9718002 and the cost is about 20 USD.

I was going to also suggest the invisigaurd. The tank bib is cool too though depends on the look you are going for.

Derek,
The above are all good suggestions. I can only add the following;

1. Harley sells a bra that covers the rear top and sides of the Sporty Tank. I doubt it would be a direct fit, but, I believe one could be fabbed by anyone doing leather work or upolstery. This is the one I hope to do but always put it off.

2. The MINIMAL COST SOLUTION - Clear packaging tape, 2" wide. Cut a piece about 4" long and place it just above the seat (horizontally). I've used this for about 2 years during the 'jacket' seasons.

3. ABSOLUTE CHEAPEST - Lose about 20 pounds and do some crunches - It will take your gut and all that rubs out of the picture. This is the one I and many others should do.

i use turtle wax swirl and scratch remover for this and it works great. as long as you do not actually remove paint down to the steel..

The 'Invisi-Guard' should work good and last a long time. A similar product called 'Invisi-bra' (or some such) is on the market for the front of cars and works quite well by all accounts. We use what we call errosion tape on airplane wings and other areas subject to abrasion. It's made by 3M.

I have that invisiguard stuff on my Jetta.. works well. I have a tank bib for my bike (came with it) but didn't like the looks. I haven't noticed any real marks on the tank, but boy.. take off the pillon seat and holy smokes!

07 TBA Pacific Blue and White.. stock for now! A bike has half the wheels my cage does.. but 3x the fun factor

Beware of the Triumph tank bib, willrover. If you don't put something under it, scratches will occur from the bib itself. And welcome to the site

I put a Triumph bib on Wendys bike recently, Has anyone else had scratches from it? I would like to know so I can fix it before it's too late.

One of the things my dealer sells is called Clear Bra. It is a very clear, very thin, but very strong plastic like coating. http://www.clearbra.net/

I've run the Triumph bib for over a year without scratches. If you tie it down firmly so it can't move, it also can't scratch.

Maybe I just did not secure it tight, like you said. I'm just going by my own experience.
