Oh, and one other note: As Greybeard alluded to, I wouldn't ever call a native Mississippian or a Texan...a YANKIE to his face. You'd probably end up getting the same response that Jaeger received when he called MacDonaldson, or whatever his name was, a BRIT, for God sake!

Yep, that would also most assuredly apply here in South Carolina. The term Yankee is almost always derogatory, and is now most often used in reference to all the people who are moving here, who ain't from here.
As for the heritage of most in the old "backcountry" of the Carolinas, it is drilled into our wee heads from birth that we are all of Scots-Irish descent, and we are not allowed to forget it.
