As far as "lighting the blue touch paper" and calling the Scots/Welch "British," OOOOOOOH no.
Well, technically they ARE British, whether they like it or not (and yes, I'm quite aware that most of 'em don't), but... It's curious, once upon a time America was very similar -- e.g., a Virginian first and an American second -- but any more it doesn't work that way. I'm still not sure if that's a good thing or not. *shrug*
