YEAH!!!

Found a good '05 790 Speedmaster black/sky blue perfect conditions for a very good price.
Only 4000 miles on it.

Signed the contract, next 8 may 07 will be at home.

I'm preparing also for intake + AI + handmade complete stainless steel pipes + 904cc big bore mods.
I want to do also a mild steet use head work...

Here a picture of the bike:

The bender machine building the pipes, the intake mods with 2 big oval holes (above and bottom), the valve on AI system and so on.

Do you know the name of the color of my bike?

Is a sky blue or neon blue?
I think it's one of the last 2004 790 registered in may 2005...

Ditto. Just got home my my new (to me) '04 America (cottonwood green/silver). I want to return the handlebars to stock, can anyone give me the correct dimensions for a stock set? The former owner put on a set of really nice Carlini bars but they don't fit me at all and I felt really cramped.

Don't you hate it when you're the newbie? I found the answer to my own question in the Tech vault/Dimensions forum.

Are you planning any brake mods? The stock pads are not very good. A set of semi-metallics do wonders.

Semi metalic and metalic pads last longer but wear out the rotor as compared to organic.

The first time your semi-metallics stop you a hair away from danger/pain/injury, you'll realize an increase in rotor wear is a small price to pay.

I don't care about the wear rate, semi-metallics stop you sooner. Too many people do mods to make their bike faster but don't improve the braking to match.

Ok the bike is at home and is very nice!
But it's less comfotable than the America. Maybe the handlebars are not in good position and of a comfortable shape.

I've ridden for a while and can write some impressions...

The bike is very poor of torque at low ranges than the one delivered by my ZRX1200 and my previous '04 XL1200C.
Yes I can't ask the same torque to an engine with 400cc less than that bikes.

But I see it has an awesome progression over 4-5000rpm. It doesn't seem a bike with only 52 wheel HP!!!
In the paper the '04 XL1200C has 80bhp (with tax payd) but it hasn't the same speed and progression of this 790 engine!

I notice lot of backfiring into the pipes releasing the throttle. And a flat spot between 3000-4000 rpm.

If low end torque was an issue maybe it was better for me to buy an 865 instead of a 790. I'll look after if a 904 kit can correct this.

The bike is stock of course, but I want to ask what in details the pipes+airbox mods will correct?
Will the bike receive also more oomph at low end rpm?

What your impressions when you removed this restrictions?

I've the impression there's a modern and quite sport attitude engine in the wrong bike...

Correction = in the right bike!

After some mods like jetting, airboxmods/freak and less restrictive pipes you have a totally different bike.

Torque is the weak point in our bikes due to displacement but i just love to keep up the rews anyway and dont care.. if i would wanted torque i would have bought a tractor...or a Harley

You will definately notice an improvement across the range with AI , airbox , exhaust , jetting mods. Don't expect too much. I went from 52HP to 65 HP with those mods. To me thats a huge gain.

Yes I'm not interested in high end power. I prefer a better overall driveability. Today I used the bike for some other miles and the engine is becoming better, more fluid, maybe the previous owner didn't use for long time and a bi of road is freeing it.

Anyway a good bike,, bigger than a Sportster and more comfortable both alone or with the passenger.

On the Sporty I felt like a big man on a small bike.
