starter drive idler gear question Ryan7771 had the same problem.

However, the longer bolts in his case did not work. Pun intended. He had to remove the RH cover and helicoil the holes. The above link talks about the idler gear shaft being loose and possibly falling out when you remove the RH cover. You will need to order the gasket (get two as they are cheap and having one in your stock is handy) a helicoil repair kit and some new bolts. ALSO before re-install, remove all the loose chrome that you will observe flaking off the mating surfaces and some other areas on the inside of the cover.
Maybe Ryan will chime in on this as he just got it fixed up.
