This has probably been discussed, but could someone briefly tell me why the '07 America lost HP with an increase in displacement? I found it interesting that it has better torque, but 7 less HP.

Because that's how it is. It's how it's been with the America and SM since always.

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

It's an emissions thing. The valve timing is much milder on the '07, looks very similar to the pre-WW1 engines that redlined at 450 - 700 RPM. This is what happens when politicians fancy themselves to be engineers. Next thing you know, they will be mandating vacuum operated intake valves.

It's cause of the new cams they use. You could put cams from an 03 in there and boost them back up a bit I would bet.
Hmmm, maybe I should sell mine to one of youz guyz?

Thanks for a "real" answer - sometimes it is difficult to get past the comedians to get a legitimate reply. I guess I'd rather have more torque than HP. I remember an old Harley Pan Head that I had. Crap HP, but good torque making it fun to come off the line.

So is this a answer to the can I run 790 cams in an 856 question.
And what about the thrux cams in the 865 SM/BA?

Politicians are treating bikes like cars.

They don't consider a bike is faster in the city and don't stop long in queues to trafic lights, and needs less time for the same trip, so less carburant and less pollution.

They are reducing bikes to have the same power of an equivalent displacement car.

Just an interesting fact to help with understanding the whole torque HP relationship:

"At 5252 rpm, horsepower is equal to torque. This is always true. If your dyno tells you that the horsepower and torque curves cross anywhere other than 5252 rpm, your dyno is broken."

I pasted that from this site:

horsepower, torque etc.

Someone had posted this link before. It's an interesting read if you're into that.

True in Europe, not as much in the states. Lane splitting isn't as common a practice here, so it's not as benificial to the gas milage.

And what about the thrux cams in the 865 SM/BA?

The Thruxton engine uses a 360 degree crank. The cams won't work.
