Money is a relative problem... I've plenty for both bikes.

I want to know what is the better choice in an overall performance result after mods.

A like new 2006 865 where I'll go to do the common airbox+AI+pipe mods.
Or a '03 (quite new) 790, cheap but with the ability to do better modifications with the money difference, like a 904cc kit together with the common airbox+AI+pipe.

But if a new 865 with the common mods will be closed a 790 with 904cc kit, I'll have a new bike with the same good performances of an old one modified.

Just want to know this difference from someone who has more experience with this bikes.

Top speed and top power is not a must for me. I prefer a good all around torque/power delivery. I don't have straight roads where I live. And enjoy travel on secondary roads plenty of twisties and mountain climbings.
