I have just come off the back of a particularly cr*p week of writing 10-18 hours a day. We have a bunch of public holidays around this weekend here in South Africa (you too?) and in the magazine publishing business, deadlines wait for no man. So I thought stuff it, and have just come back from a ride that took me through miles of farmland (ever notice how your senses work better when you’re out riding? – you can smell the farms coming before you see them approach from the next hill) The aroma of recent rain on winelands coupled with a seriously enjoyable mountain pass and not only is my writers block gone – but I feel like I have just had two week holiday. I should be able to claim my Triumph costs from medical insurance – its pure therapy… ha ha

I know what you mean, the wife and I look forward to each weekend that is rideable. Yesterday, we did a 300 mile loop to the coast and back. The smells were all about us, from Dairys to Garlic in Gilroy. Morgan Hill Harley/Cross ministries sponsored a poker run that included a 100 mile loop through Hollister, Salinis, Moss Landing, Watsonville and back to Gilroy for music and food. The additional aromas included Pine, Eucaliptis, Strawberry and Fishing Harbor. I agree pure therapy! Bob and Amy

ok, here's my two corny cents on bike stress relief...... On a muggy June evening as I came over a rise and onto a straight stretch I noticed that I had the road to myself. No one in front or behind me and no one in the oncoming lane. Just me and all the bugs flying into my headlight. Then I noticed the scene unfolding around me. The sun had set behind the horizon and all that remained was the orange-yellow glow that gradually faded into the other colors of the spectrum. To the east the moon was almost full and cast its silvery light on the landscape. The humid air was almost visible holding in itself the colors of the twilight. The light that remained created highlights on the shadowy forms of the landscape. Glowing silver in the moonlight, ground fog was pooling in the lower areas. And like fairy lights in an enchanted land, fireflies began to shine their mating beacons. I could not remember ever seeing such a magical scene. The beauty carried with it a surreal feeling, bringing back to me the belief in magic that gets left behind in childhood. I was filled with a feeling of peace and beauty. Grateful that I was able to witness such magical and rare beauty I smiled fully, risking collecting a mouth full of winged night flyers. I knew that I would have missed the scene had I been incased in a car. Being on a bike makes you part of the world, part of the life around you. There could be no better reason for riding. One brief moment of overwhelming beauty is an honorable quest. I will continue to ride in search of more.

yes I agree. Riding is my "keep the sanity" therapy. I really like member Soren's shirt: "for some there's therapy" "for the rest of us there's Motorcycles"
BA has Freak, 160mains, 44pilots, air mix3 1/2 to 4 turns, BUBS dresser dogs. Never had more fun on any bike - 2nd bike 2008 RIIIT

Beutifully written, Tali! Here's my night riding poem, I wrote it after a June night's ride, where the thought popped into my head "I love the smell of night..."
I love the smell of night & What is hidden.
Within the darkness Mystery And all that waits for morning
Stars Hold their promises & Consider our dreams- Weigh us on their cold & ancient measure
I want the touch of truth & The pierce of absolute
Sharp point of my integrity One whole moment Of Divine- All that’s known Distilled to pure & silent insight in my skin.
I am the smell of night & What is hidden.
"Let your soul shine,
It's better than sunshine,
It's better than moonshine,
****** sure better than rain."

Kevin, Very Cool! Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite Love and Rockets songs "I Feel Speed": Quote:
Motorcycle and me Motorcycle set me free The motorbike don't go to fast Just sets me free Just you and me You set me free Just you and me You set me high I feel warm inside On my motorcycle The wind is all around We are free Me and the motorcycle We... We are free

a recent check-up with the family doctor brought this question "mr. hill, for such a high stress job, you have the lowest blood pressure, it is "perfect" ...i attributed this to fine hand rolled cigars of the cheap variety and my Triumph's.....he said "keep it up, it is working and better then a heart attack"

Hmmmm, let's see. 100 miles..divided by 40(on average) miles per (US)gallons..equals 2.5 (US)gallons..times(presently anyway..but just wait) $3.50(US) per (US)gallon....equals(grand total) $8.75(US) Now Andy, I don't know what those "shrinks" charge down your way, but if it's ANYTHING like the moolah those dudes get around HERE for their services, then you ALSO know that in this regard what a comparative BARGAIN this here ridin' thing is TOO!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
