The wife and I are going to be in Albuqueque from May 13 to 18. On the 17th we have a bike reserved from Thunderbird HD. Any chance any members out that way can get with us for a day of riding? Reply here or E-mail me at honeah@verizon.net. Show this Jersey couple some of your countryside. TR

Thanks for the info but I only have the bike for one day. I was really looking forward to some one in the Albuquerque area to hook up with for that one day. The maps that Thunderbird HD sent me suggested a route north of the city that was about 200 miles that looked good. Riding alone is a drag, but I can understand if nobody on here wants to be seen riding with an inferior bike [the HD] but that is all I can get. TR

Still no takers for a ride in the New Mexico sunshine? Come on people, I know I am ugly and it is a Thursday ride but no Hits at all?

I was in ABQ but I have since moved on. I'm goint to school in Laramie, Wyoming now. I know of two other members who live there, skid and Budweiser, but I haven't seen either on around here for months. I don't know what happened to them.

Albuquerque has a small but good Triumph shop, PJ's Triumph way out on the east end of Central Avenue. I have seen numerous Triumphs around the city, but I haven't met any of the riders.

I would suggest I-40 west to Tejeras, and then north through Madrid (Wild Hogs fame) and on to Santa Fe. From there you could go through Los Alamos and on into the Jemez mountains. Then loop back south to ABQ. There probably are other nice rides, but I didn't have time to seek them out.

If you happen to go west toward Grants, go see Sky City at Acoma. That isn't the Casino, it's the pueblo about 11 miles south of I-40. The pueblo is located on the edge of a stunningly beautiful valley. The Indians don't allow photos, but it's well worth a ride and a look.

All kinds of places are coming to me now. If you make it over toward Los Alamos, go see Bandelier National Monument. Pueblo ruins and cliff dwellings. Very interesting.

I used to live there way back when. Bandolier definitely. Santa Fe is nice too. Can usually find local eats on the square. Or ride up through Bernillio (sp?) along the river. Another ride I used to like was through Jemez Springs. Used to be a swimming hole there called Soda Dam fed by hot springs. Traffic would stop along the road way and folks would take a dip. I once found a secluded spot and stumbled upon 4 folks dipping if you know what I mean. Didn't hang around long. Coda's suggestion on Madrid is a nice ride too. Or ride to the top of Sandia Peak. Might be a little cool in May. Once when I was up there it was sleeting in early June. Wish I could ride with you. I love that part of the country.

Now we are getting somewhere people. Becky, I was hoping that you would come over to ride with me and the wife. After all , you put them away and while they are in the stir, I take care of their needs, we are practically in the same line of work. My friends live in Torreon, southeast of the city. For the one day that we will be on a bike, we will probably head to the Santa Fe area then cut west and south, that is a route suggested by the HD dealer in town. Still hope that we can hook up with a local rider while we are out there. TR

Kevin, why don't you and the wife go with us? As far as I know the plane is not full yet. TR

Any other weekend - well almost - and I would have come and joined you. You just happened to pick the weekend of our Southwest Triumph gathering.
And yes, we are in the same business....I send them up the river and you "take care" of'em while they are there. I have had fun this week, working on sending a couple for longer than they planned.....heheheheheh....oh...is that wrong!?

If you have friends in the Albq area, then next time you come over, give me a little more warning, and I'll work on meeting up with you and your wife! Its a nice area, and if I can make a 3-dayer out of it, I can come over the back way and stay off I-40 (its ok, but too much freeway for my tastes).

Have a great time!!!!!! And Santa Fe is a neat place - if you get there, take the time to at least walk around the old square. Also, old town Albq is pretty neat too.

Going to be great. The difference in scenery from NJ to Albq. alone will be a blast. TR

Right you are. Alb is at about 5,000 feet almost high desert. Be sure to get off the bike now and then to look close at the small plant life. Some of the best beauty has to be seen up close. It's dry so be sure to pack plenty of water and sunscreen. Enjoy the trip!
