I'm getting a lot of popping on decelaration. I replaced the Main jets (135s), removed snokle, stock paper filter, no shims, stock pilot jets and 3 turns out on the screws. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hey Fishercat, I had the same problem. I have 132 mains, and stock pilots. My decel popping starts to fade at 3.5 turns and almost none at 4 turns out. I am going to get some 45 pilots and try them - starting at about 2 turns out. Ride Safe, Dennis

Thanks, Thanks Skillet! I got the 45 pilots with the pipes and didn't put them in. I probably should have. According to Pat you should only need them above 4000' elevation but I might try them anyway. How about the shims? What are they suppose to do for you?

Shouldn't need any shims with your setup. But do put in the 45 pilots. I have the SS supplied 132.5/45 setup and the bike runs great. My popping disappears at 3.5 turns out, but my plugs looked a little rich so I now have them set at 3.25 turns out which gives a little popping.

I think I got everything worked out with Dinqua's help. I didn't have all 4 intake ports plugged. I only had 1 plugged from the AI removal. I removed the other 3 vacuum tubes and capped the ports. Bingo! she's running like a champ. No popping on either side. 3 1/2 turns out, snorkle removed, 135 mains. I didn't put the 45 pilot jets in yet, I think I'm going to wait to see how she runs for a couple of weeks.

Great, glad it's running well. Ole Pat knows his carb's! I bet she was lean with those intake ports open. I'd leave the pilots alone if the bike is running well. Know when to leave well-enough alone, I'l still working on that one.

I just installed a set of the SS Short Slash Cuts and I am having problems with the bike stalling out while at idle. AI out, snorkel out, Uni Air Filter in. 135 mains, 45 pilots and 1 shim under the needle, 3 1/2 turns out. Noticed that the plugs seem black everywhere but the electrode. Anybody got any ideas? Tried 3 turns out also but with more popping on decel.

Sounds like you have a loose/missing vacuum cap on the carb tops?
