Any you guys heard of a special spray or paint on the market, for checking cylinder heads for cracks and fractures. A friend had spoke about it and I would like to try it out, but don't know the name......

There's the spray stuff that's used for mag flux testing that exposes cracks - BUT - You DON'T want to use that on any surface that shows. You'll have to tear it down and work the insides. It's been a long time but seem to recall a colored spray-on (not exactly a 'paint' and then a 'developer' which then exposes cracks/defects. I'm not quite sure that's what your friend is talking about?
If it is - A welding supplies vendor will have it.

The project involves an already stripped down cylinder head, so do you think the stuff your talking about would do ?

Just a warning - If you're able to get your hands on that stuff - IT SMELLS LIKE CRAP. It actually makes me sick (and not much makes me sick. Read the label. Follow the warnings. AND I HOPE YOU ARE CRACK FREE!

If he is crack free how does he poop? I too hope the head is free from defects since that is quite a costly repair. I will agree with pipedr that stuff has a horendous odor and also kinda makes me feel ill too. blather blather.

I just had a brain fart - Its Dye penetrant testing.
The stuff is 2 parts - called 'dye penetrant solution' (that's part A, and 'developer' (part B)
Its sold seperatly or as a kit.
You spray on part A, let sit, spray Part B, wipe. The cracks get exposed...
No connection to mag flux or mag particle - my bad

pipedr they are calling the spray magnaflux and it's 3 parts 1 dye
2 developer
3 cleaner

Mag flux and dye pen testing are two seperate things -
2 parts
dye
developer
D.P. is the simplest
MF requires initiating a magnetic field to expose the crack.
3 parts
powdered ferrous metal
solution to flow the powder
developer

I understand that. I was talking about the 2 products I posted and they are 3 part. Both of them use a dye and then a developer and then a cleaner. No magnet required but the can still says magnaflux on it.

you can also use ZYGLOW. Same thing as and mfg as Magnaflux, The paint looks like "radio active green" and is inspected with a black lite. Better than the spray on develeper but not good as magnaflux. If you go to a corporate airport near you, you might be able to have an Aviation technician do it for you. Id do it but Im in the U.S.
