Here are the photos that I took while I was away on a business conference at the Lost City. This whole area was at one time dry bush and everything was either shipped in or made onsite. Even the water was pumped into the area. All the photos - clicky

Very Cool Pics! I am going to have to put SA on my list of places to go some day.
But the city doesn't look very lost to me, at least not any more. So shouldn't it be Found City?

When they had the plans to build this, it was on a local tribes land. The tribe was worried that this would have a negative impact on the way they lived. Therefore, a contract was signed ensuring them that they would always be employed within the complex when ever possible so the project went ahead. Obviously, the local tribe has only gained from the whole deal. What they do is also recycle any wastewater used by the area and pump it into wetland that has also had a huge positive impact on the environment as well.

Great photos Dave. How far did they have to pump water from?

I may be mistaken but I would assume they would pump it from one of our largest dams that is just down the road a few miles or so, however I cannot clarify this. Here are a few facts on the project you may find interesting.

As a matter of interest
I have indicated in the subject of this thread that The Lost City is in South Africa. In fact, it falls in the borders of one of our neighboring countries Bophuthatswana. When gambling was still illegal in South Africa Sol Kerzner saw a potential market and built a number of casinos just over the borders of South Africa. Now at the time we had independent countries scatted throughout our own borders of our country, so he made a killing with the hungry gambling population of South Africa. We would also travel to some of these venues to see shows that were otherwise banned here in South Africa. At the time it was thought that if we actually saw a naked women we would be forever corrupted.

Notice the indigenous bush behind the main hotel. This is primary thorn trees and very dry land so it has taken quite something to create this green lush foliage that has been placed within the complex itself
