Interesting that Bill talks about the latin derivation of "logorrhea," but it really goes further back to Greek, with the "logo" bit being a giveaway - from logos meaning "word."

If latinate words are what you crave, I'd recommend sesquipedalian, which has a number of meanings that include "given to using long words" and "something of 18 inches in length." No suprise that my wife never describes me as "sesquipedalian."

Siggy

This is actually the best post I have seen. We can say any nonsensical thing we want and it's not off topic!! Plus it's good for a smile almost every time I look at it.

I agree. Maybe we should hold a one minute blather as a mark of respect...

Occasional visitor... this is the most interesting thread on here for a long time. Respect to Big_Poppy for apologising, but that was a while ago. Bit of navel gazing never did anyone any harm. If we, as fellow enthusiasts of fairly niche bikes, can't agree to respect each other, then the world really is a sad and lonely place!

Well it looks like other members are allowed to post what they want in the lounge but not me. I posted a good time Wendy and I had and it gets removed, Nothing offencive or rude just some fun we had in Disney.

and you are, it had to do with arsenalfans statement about the Hardley Boutique and about the time I was there when I went in it. It was also posted as a seperate post just relay a good time I had and I am not the first to post a good time I had and then that got removed. If the crap Mechano was spewing didn't get removed I can't understand why what I said did.

I'll tell ya why, Ian. It's our brand new "International Diplomacy Doctrine" that Phil and Boys have instituted recently around here.

If YOU'D move to Italy, then YOU wouldn't get deleted EITHER, Dude!!!

(I've been there a few times myself! Venice?! Beautiful place! The wife and I keep sayin' we're goin' back there to visit again one day, ya know)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Don't know about that, Dwight. My grandparents left so they wouldn't get 'deleted'. They thought that was a TRIUMPH. I'm glad they did it. If they hadn't, I could be riding a Vespa or a freakin' Fiat.

My thanks to Norina and Carlo

Well I'm here blathering instead of riding cause 1. Its the rainy season in NH. And 2. I don't have a bike. Almost 1 month in they now have the parts but still haven't started the tear down. Hopefully I will have it back by this weekend. But the wife is coming home from an extended stay in Newport News helping to train Northop Grumman on how to fix a sub. So I willing to bet my riding time will be curtailed. I was hoping to ride constantly this spring/summer to offset the new baby and responsibilities this fall.

I don't think the mods have ever deleted a post simply for topic drift unless it drifted into an AUP violation - and then usually it just gets locked, not deleted.

My wife works for the DOD. In the navy's infinite wisdom they gave the contract to refit the Newport News to Northrop but assigned the managing and training responsibility to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
She has only been down there for 3 weeks which is short, but this isn't hunting season and I currently have no bike so I'm going a little stir crazy.

I can't believe I read this whole thread. But I did, so here's my opinion.

Most forums I've seen turn into pornography eventually. When's that gonna happen?

That won't be pornography. Something closer to macabre.

The biggest "problem," if you can call it that, is some of the more arrogant newbies that come in here and think they can do whatever they want, without spending some time getting a feel for the "culture" here. They push buttons, they push limits, and eventually it comes to a head with much drama. In the end it's a tempest in a teapot and the newbie in question "learns their place" or leaves.

I must confess that I am one of the "newbies" and I really enjoy this site and love reading all the posts from every person. I probably post too much and I know some of it is blathering and sometimes off topic too. Maybe that means I don't know my place here yet. But, I have a lot of time on my hands because I am retired now and have my new bike.
I promise to keep my posts down to the bare minimum and be more of a lurker in the underbelly of the forum for a while.

I remember moving into a house that we had bought in 1979 and meeting the neighbor guy next door on the same day. He made it a big point to tell me that he had bought his house way back in 1954 when it was brand new. He also told me that every single family that had lived in my house (before me) had been a lot of trouble. He then layed down some of his basic neighborhood rules for me and said that he actually owned 20 feet of my backyard. I had it surveyed and I actualy owned a small part of his yard. He and his family turned out to be the worse neighbors I have ever had.

I always thought you were one of the interesting posters, and was surprised to find you were a newbie. Maybe because I'm soon-to-be a TBA old guy, and we talk the same language. I'm already old, it's the TBA that is soon-to-be.

Don't stop.
