Ditto to that. Now the Avatar scandal...woooo, that was a big one. I hear Stephen Speilburg is looking into making a movie about it. Not sure what actors are going to play who, I hear George Callin may play Dwight....or was that Alec Baldwin.

Oh how true. I can honestly say that no one on here has upset me, and i hope i have not upset anyone on here.

Ooh, except that misereble git who keeps going on about Soccer. Hes a bit of a ........ ooops, that would be me.

Sorry, i'm blathering again.

There's a very simple solution to all this - A New Forum! Yes, we obviously need a Blathering Forum (or Blithering). And just to make sure it's entertaining, I would nominate Dwight and Dog33 to be the moderators.

This place is probably the most civil forum I have ever been on. The moderators do a good job of keeping control. We have to remember that sites are fluid some people post a lot for a time and drift along for a while.
We tend to get attitudes like this on a wheeling forum I'm on in Feb every year like clockwork. Its the cabin fever kicking in. Maybe this site is a couple of months behind since we are global and everyone gets pissy around April.
This is great forum and I probably wouldn't stop by if it wasn't for the chatting and blabbing. We can only discuss the same mods to the same bikes so much.

You know ..in retrospect this statement is so true! Having been on many forums that specialize in varius and sundry topics over the last eight or nine years ...this one is overall very tame when it comes to controversy. I am not sure what others are accustomed to but some sites thrive on personal attacks that go well beyond what would be considered "unacceptable" behavior on this one.

I have honestly not understood some of the redundant whining that comes from what seems to be only a few here. I'd say like Dwight and others...."live and let live" or put the ones you just dont like or cant tolerate on "ignore"

Some people are thin skinned I guess and thats OK.....but they should not be allowed to legislate for the rest of us.

Heck this site is like a girl scout summer camp. Civil as can be.

I totally agree and hope that never changes. It give this place a personal feel. You get to know each other as much as you can on a computer. We laugh together we talk about our various views on serious subjects we help each other out with parts and advice and a little controversy is bound to crop up from time to time as long as people are allowed to think for themselves and I believe that is healthy. That being said even when we disagree there would be no reason to not be civil about it. This is the only forum I have ever belonged to and I have checked others out and have actually been popping in this one from time to time for a couple years.I use it both for entertainment and information and I think thats the beauty of this site it's not just dry and technical but more personal and fun and being fun and informative at the same time what more could you want?

Bad comparison...... this is TAME compared to any Girl Scout/Guide camp that I've been on. Then perhaps I'm a bad Guide leader and let them nearly get away with murder.

I don't know how to quote but all these last comments are true. I have not read any posts that I deemed nasty towards anyone that didn't appear to be in jest or good natured. As far as other questionable content from posters I haven't seen much to raise a fuss over but also don't know how much work it causes the mods. But then my standards might not be as high as some of you other good poeple.
have the mods let on that it's getting "worse"?
Plus with all the "limit pushing" I don't think anyone here intends to offend.

If this thread has served no purpose other than to make us do a little self assessment, then mission accomplished! Every once in a while, take a step back, ya know? It's all good!! Quite frankly, if anyone leaves or gets pissed over this, it is a perfect example of what this thread is all about!

Not pointing at anyone specifically here, just a quick comment. If anyone for one second thinks the moderation here is too strong, go on over to TriumphRat.net and try and start any off topic discussion. Their Moderator's Hammer of Smitingâ„¢ is just as big as ours but they've used it so much they've worn several out. WHAM-WHAM-WHAM and before you know it the head pops right off. They can be quite brutal over there.

The biggest "problem," if you can call it that, is some of the more arrogant newbies that come in here and think they can do whatever they want, without spending some time getting a feel for the "culture" here. They push buttons, they push limits, and eventually it comes to a head with much drama. In the end it's a tempest in a teapot and the newbie in question "learns their place" or leaves. One was forced out.

Granted, this is a very small percentage of newbies, but the net effect can be tremendous.

I don't get on here much and lately, I really don't want to either. Do some of you people camp out here on a permanent basis? Do you not have ANY kind of life that you spend hours and hours posting and re-posting?

The quality of this site has taken a drastic downward spiral in recent months. When I first joined, it was all about the bikes and this stupid Lounge was for the drivel. Now I find I cannot even read through the technical forums because of the blathering going on there too!!! WTF?

I sincerely hope the moderators do something about this.

Oh and btw, this will be my only post in this thread. I've said my piece, I don't need to keep posting over and over and over. So go ahead and beat this to death too. You know you will.

I don't want to discourage newbies from joining or participating. Chances are, though, if someone had the presence of mind to ask themselves, "Is Friar talking about me?" Then you're not one of the ones I'm talking about.

Like the saying goes, if you can ask if yourself if you're crazy, you ain't.

I for one actual look for posts from our friends and fellow Triumph lovers from other countries. In fact I wish they would post more. I have learned alott from them their views, and how they view the world. A few months ago I posted a story about the time I was on R&R in Thialand. To me it was an harmless post just part of my life and a different era. I have always regetted posting that story as I never thought it would upset anyone, well it did and it has always bothered me. I never had a chance to apoligize for that post as it was pulled after the complaints from our international friends started coming in. I made a smart alec remark to Sparkplug the other day and would like to apoligize for that re-mark also, he is entitled to his opinion and needs to be respected for that.

Well I would like to apoligize to everyone who read that story and were upset by it now. A little late, but better late then never.

I have belonged to this site for a little under a year now and stumbled upon it by mistake. Everyone has welcommed me and I have learned a ton about our bikes and I'm not one bit afrid to tear into it as I know when the rubber meets the road everyone will help me through what ever problem I'm up against.

After reading Benny's post I'm going to take his advise and really think about who is going to read my post and ask myself is this going to offend anyone.

Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

John

Now funny from my side being one of those international members when reading any opinion or post I always look at it that we all come from a different background and have different outlooks on life. Therefore, if I am reading a post that I may find offensive I simply stop and go onto another. I value the fact that we all have an opinion, they all differ, and this is what makes it a learning curve no matter what the subject.

After all we are all supposed to be adults and should make up our own minds on what we accept or do not accept and should not feel that if it does not come into our boundaries of what we believe no one else should be allowed to read it and form there own opinion.

See its all about perspective. We all have our own, and it's great to notice that its ok for other people to have theirs, much less understand it and appreciate it.

I also think there are two flavors of newbies. The lurkers who finally chime in, and the "hey lookey here" allofasudden members. All are welcome, but it's like the age old oil and tire questions. Take a step back, do a little research, then ask the questions. I even have to remind myself to do that

I can answer that Rob, there is a little known plant in Atlantis that has to be harvested the 2nd tuesday in the 5th week of Feb during an odd numbered year. You then have to strip the husk off of the fruit and place it in a press and squeeze to twice the atmosphereic pressure of jupiter in spring. Once you do that you have to drink it to allow your body to purify it. When you P it back out its then almost ready to be used. The last step is to have it blessed by a high priest on Easter Island.

My reference source(the Oxford American Dictionary and Language Guide), reads:
blath-er / n & v/ n foolish chatter / v chatter foolishly

Seems to me that there are SOME people around here who have less of a tolerance for "suffering fools gladly" than I HAVE.

Hmmmm...interesting. I NEVER thought I'd live to see the day where THAT could happen. Go figure!

Okay. That's IT for me on this subject. I CAN'T get any more foolishly clever in my blathering than THAT!

(wait a minute there..."foolishly CLEVER???!!!...Okay, where's that book....O...OX...OXY...ah, THERE it is!...Oxymoron...OxyMORON???!!!.....HEY!!! Now I'M insulted!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

The answer is simple. Don't read what does not interest you. If all you need/want is technical information stay out of the non-technical forum. If the title of a topic does not interest you, don't open it. Dish Network has a couple of hundred choices but I generally watch only what interests me. I don't expect Dish Network to drop all the channels I'm not interested in. Similarly, I only read the posts on BA.com that look interesting and leave the rest. I don’t expect everyone else to shut up simply because what they are talking about is not of interest to me.

I am reminded of a woman who approached me on the golf course to complain about my cigar. She couldn’t even smell it from her foursome but felt it necessary to scold me because its mere existence offended her. I will not repeat what I told her, but I will say that a little tolerance and forbearance with our fellow humans goes a long way toward living a happier life.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I belong to another forum...I know beat me...but one day someone went off on pointless posts....on a board that adverages 6-10 pages (60-100 replies to a post) the thread he created shot to well over 1500 posts of truely pointless posts...odd movie quotes, comedian quotes, some of the funniest stuff ever seen on that forum...but of NO (perceived) redeeming value to the site.......or so the "ranter" would have you belive...

Personalities are revealed...you learn who is typing that stuff...you get to know the people thru the minutia that they "blather" on about...you get to see something about those words...and if you look long enough you can actualy get to know the real person you may never meet...so without the blather we become a Tech manual ...so to you I say bite me...and if you've read enough of this worthless "blather" then you would know weather there should be a big grinning face next to bite me or a mad face....

HAHAAA!!!
