I don't get on here much and lately, I really don't want to either. Do some of you people camp out here on a permanent basis? Do you not have ANY kind of life that you spend hours and hours posting and re-posting?
The quality of this site has taken a drastic downward spiral in recent months. When I first joined, it was all about the bikes and this stupid Lounge was for the drivel. Now I find I cannot even read through the technical forums because of the blathering going on there too!!! WTF?
I sincerely hope the moderators do something about this.
Oh and btw, this will be my only post in this thread. I've said my piece, I don't need to keep posting over and over and over. So go ahead and beat this to death too. You know you will.

Ok,I'll start. I kinda see what you mean. Alot of the earlier posters I remember do not post much anymore. I also think that was some of Adel's beef too.I tire of the "blathering" too and avoid the sections with most of it. Winter has a lot to do with it, but who knows for sure. my son won't log on because of the non technical stuff that goes on. I too am guilty seeing I get on at least once a day to catch up and also learn something once in a while. This sight is a wealth of info if we know how to use it. sorry for the length mike

Fred,
As one of the (probably Main)"Blatherers" around here, could you please be a little more specific about which "infraction" has caused you this grievance enough to post this seeming esperasion of your's here.
If perchance you mainly use BA.com as a reference source only, and feel these conversations that often segue into other topics somewhat distracting, I certaining understand your position here.
But, sorry Dude. That's not going to stop me from having fun with some of my friends here in the Lounge.
(and yes, I guess you could say, "I have no life"...just wait until I retire in a few days)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I know I have been posting at lot more than normal lately. The weather is nice so I'm thinking bikes. But business is slow so really I'm just parked in front of the comp waiting for the phone to ring. So I might as well babble on the net.

One more suggestion Fred....
I believe there's a section in our personal info area where it allows you to not show any person's posts for whatever reason. If you find someone's(or a group of any particular peoples') continual postings distasteful, may I suggest you use that service provided by this site.
Trust me. I won't take it personally if you put my name in there. I would suppose many others here who use this site for cheerier motives and not just as that reference source that you allude to, would feel the same.

I wasn't going to chime in on this one. But I for one enjoy the comradery and humor along with the tech talk. Much better than just dry facts. We take (mostly) good humored pokes at each other or small play on words very much as if we were all standing around the bikes in person talking about the same topics. A little cleaner because we can't say certain things but other than that it's what I imagine would go on if we were all standing around together.
Wendy and I both work from home some of my work is on the computer so I bounce back and forth between work and this site. And it often makes me smile and I like that and even at times I laugh out loud at things people say. In among all that there is good info and people trying to help each other out. I don't see any reason we can't have both.

I have checked my dictionary and confirmed that what goes on here is NOT blathering. To blather is to talk nonsensically, and with the possible exception of Dwight when he's undermedicated, I don't see much of that. What really goes on here is confabulation. Mike

Does that mean that those of us who can't go to GA (ie there's a lot of water in the way and don't want to convert to an amphibious motorcycle) can have some sensible conversation?

Well, boys and girls, this will surely pissoff some of you but I have to vent. It’s been bugging me for quite a while but I had decided to keep a tight lip and not add to the crap that already has been upsetting to more than a few. I suspect my rant will be so poorly received that I may not be so welcome in some circles. In order to minimize further in-fighting and turmoil, please don’t drag this rant into a big discussion unnecessarily. You can share you displeasure with me and my rant via a PM rather than continue to stir this pot of crap.
I’ll agree with the remark, “The quality of this site has taken a drastic downward spiral in recent months.â€Â, but, only to a point. You see, I never had a problem with “off topic†discussions and I don’t think holding the moderators to the task of “fixing†it is fair or practical.
There is some kind of ugly festering sore in the underbelly of this forum, but, policing on the part of the moderators isn’t the answer. They’re already over taxed as it is – and the pay ain’t all that great. Most of the people that are moderators are the people that used to be the life of this forum. They were both the persons of mechanical wisdom, the persons of human insight, and the persons who could spin a tale or joke around. You can tell by the frequency and types of posts that many of them are consumed with the chores of moderating rather than participating in the ways they once did. In recent months I’ve witness some long timers leave and more than a few post far less than they ever did. I see the enemy, my dear Pogos, and they is us. I never post on the ‘other’ site, but visit infrequently. I’ve never detected the huge array of asshats, arseholes, no-it-alls, n’er-do-wells, and uncivil jerks as I fear we have amassed on this site. The banter in any of the discussion forums is not, and never has been a problem – The problem stems from how the banter always evolves into some argument over censorship and free speech by the aforementioned asshats. The only way this site gets turned around is if we begin showing some respect and acting like adults. I’m no pilgrim, and but I try to stay within the boundaries. When I cross them, I usually have the insight to recognize it. When I don’t, I’ll big enough to accept the wrist slapping and step back in line. Some of you continually want to test the boundaries and those that voluntarily give their time to do so. Some of you are just too ignorant to realize. And, some of you just seem ****** bent on being disruptive. While I’m on this rant, I’ll point out another observation that wrenches my gut – I have never, no that’s NEVER witnessed one freakin’ occasion in which there was a problem that the problem was started by one of the members from Europe, Australia, or anywhere outside the U.S. What’s with that? Perhaps some more crap to substantiate that ‘Ugly American’ tag, and I find that both disturbing and embarrassing. Sorry man I can't. I would love to meet you and the other guys but it isn't finacially posible and we have to take care of the twins at the same time as the ralley too. I will get to an event closer to where I live if there is one. Could have done the Marcus Dairy thing since that is close enough to ride up screw around some then ride back home again.

Hmmm. Lots of blather about not a whole lot eh? Doncha ever get tired of reading posts about rejetting , Freaking, windshield choice, proper oil , brake pads, and recalcitrant ignitor boxes.?
We can find all those galore and good on ya if ya need em. I use em when I need em and I find if I do have a question pertaining to anything technical in nature about our rides the answer is always quick in the forthcoming.
Often it can be found with a search or in the tech vault but its in here somewhere.
So whats wrong with a little BLATHER? NOT a thing in the end.
Still a great site.....nuttin wrong wit it at all.

Very well,,,,this is the third or forth time this dissuccion has come up.
Since I am guitly of "blither" on several occaision and since the hard core rough tough all about the bike element seems so upset by the blither, and I certainly dont want to be an embarrassment to my country. I shall "take my ball and go home".
Phil Please be so kind as to delete my account.
Gina I wish to publicly thank you for exchangeing coins with me, I did make the custom piece out of it, I'm sorry I never got around to posting a picture but, the image of your Queen now adorns my bike (tastefully I hope).
To the CT boys, I may run into you at The Toymakers, I'm sure I'll hit it somtime this summer.
To Atriumphgodess might see you at "The Bean".
To Pipedr and anyone else who considers themselves among the above the blither elite, I can say but one thing.
farewell.

Read my post agian, Jack. You completely miss the point. I've got nothing against your blathering or anyone else's. What I tried to say was that the general level of behavior sucks and that discussions like this very one serve only to drive the wedge further - your response is proof of that. No one needs to take their marbles and leave. We only need to show some dignity and respect and quit testing the moderators' patience.

Well, we're not deleting anyones account.. not anymore... if I have any say in the matter. If you don't want to be a part of this, then stop posting.... it's just that simple. I can't see what difference it would make whether your account is still here or not if you're not going to come back. Anyway.. I for one would rather you not go.. you're an active member on the site and I've never had issues with anything you've said or done. I don't want anyone leaving .. period... people... if you're getting all twisted up about the goings on on a website you're taking this stuff waaaaay too seriously. This site is a very cool place.. I've been around here for a few years now and have seen it go through some changes.. some better than others but all necessary. Without change things go stagnant and I don't want to let that happen because then people will get bored and not come back, without the people.. all of you.. this site wouldn't exist. I like it here... I like the people.. the jokes.. the stories, the family stuff that people share... People come and people go.. it's the natural order of things but we've lost too many old friends lately and I truly don't understand why. So enough I say.. lets all take a breath...

please, this place is a ball, in my few years as a active member, i have seen complaints about politics, sex hijacking , in everyone the site was going down hill. But its still here. Its a life onto itself. We want hundreds of post fighting over a picture of a girl under a christmas tree. It was going to end the family morals of the site, but its still here. We banned poltics and that was going to end the open discussions of the site, but its still here. People come and go, they sell there bikes they dont like the tone of the site, so they go to some boring tech site. but the site is still here. Until robert pulls the plug this site will be alive and well. the people will change, the the topics will come and go and come back. I mean how many times have we talk about a corbin seat?
We make fun of ourselfs and others, we get made at a computer screan and we still come back. We have great moderators, who take a lot of crap but keep it going, but even they will come and go but the site will be here. Its here and great because of the dwights and the chy and the youts friar johns. its great because people will push to see what they can get away with it. The new people and the vets. You know i miss the some that have left but we have 5 to replace those. Look have fun ,get mad but enjoy the site. But remember it will be here

Barry, that was a very well said post! Thanks for your perspective.
I think I see Sparky's point about the blathering, but I think Barry hit the nail on the preverbial head. It's not so much that it is off topic, it is that people take it too seriously sometimes (myself included).
Jack, I really hope you re-think your leaving, I was looking forward to riding with you this summer.

I can see your point, but it is all a matter of perspective. One mans garbage is another mans treasure. As time goes by all things change, and in your perspective not for the better. Maybe in a week, a month or a year this place will look better, but then again maybe not.

change is always happening, some people get bored with same old, same old and start pushing the limits of other peoples preferences. I too grew up in the sixties and heard a lot of "when I was a kid". also got sent home from grade school (parochial) for pants being too tight along with the girls whose dress didn't touch the floor when they knelt down. But I wasn't the kid with the longest hair in jr high but many tried to stand out to be different, individuals. We're all hooligans, pushing poeples buttons. We're all human mike

I have read this forum probably every other day since 2004 and, frankly, do not know what the frustrations are about? I am of the philosophy that if you don't enjoy then find something else to do with your time. Though sometimes I think various posts are "blathering"...so what, I just skip on to the next post and save myself the grief.
I enjoy this site.

Yeah, thanks for that Chris. Do you have a legal driver's license yet?
Here's my two cents. Having to read every post in every forum (again, thanks Chris), I understand the sentiment. However, I also understand the converse. This is an open forum with very little verboten but perhaps we could keep the 'blather' (or blither, if you prefer ) in the Lounge???
That might make everyone happy.

We could try but you have to stop Dwight and Bobbed from getting me started! I understand both points of view as well,I don't think the joking hurts anything but by the same token you do have to sift through it to find the serious answer to the problem.

I'm one of the guilty, I suppose, since I just got here right about the same time this site went to pot. Sorry I screwed it up for you- really. This is a really cool place and I would be upset, too, if it were taken away from me.
But I deal with this every day. I work in local government. Every week I hear citizens complaining about the growth in our City (#3 in the country- #1 best place to live). After hearing them vent, I'll ask the group "how many of you were born here?" Often times, its just me with my hand up. The point is, were all new to this site at one point or another. There is a culture here that is alive and dynamic. New people will come, old beloved friends will go, the student will become the teacher, and we support one another and our common bonds, while gently pooping in the shoes of our rivals.
Stick around, man, and contribute. You cannot affect that which you do not participate in.
Cheers~ Bryan Jennings

People come and people go.. it's the natural order of things but we've lost too many old friends lately and I truly don't understand why.
"Boy howdy...." You said a lot there Chy. I truly enjoy the new friends, at times find myself wondering where some of the old ones have got to or are up to. There being a few that never made the leap from the "old board" to this fancy razoo new one ~ Thanks Robert.

I am a "new guy" as well. So, if we are cutting and herding everyone into "blather", "techy" camps thsi may well be where the appropriate iron gets seared into my not so little pink bottom. Quote:

Another quotable quote, "you can please some of the people some of the time but never all of the people all of the time." (or something like that).
Where in the instructions that came with the great game of life is that rule written???? So many things in this day and age or overly "PC" and "lets not hurt feelings or offend". Dudes..it is a forum, you don't like it don't read it. Fair or just was never part of the deal for any organism with lungs or gills on the big blue planet. Oh yeah, this one forum has been my little bastion of sanity for the better part of 6 months and I am very glad to call it my little island. (ducking for the incoming rounds).

I don't post much, me being a young'n and a newbie I'm just trying to do all the learning i can about our bikes. But I think the premise of this thread alone is a "blather," trying to turn nothing into something. What is all this doom and gloom about "this site is going to the dogs," etc.? This site is great! Some of the politics got out of hand before the ban, but it remains THE most repsectable and professional forum I've found on any subject. There is virtually no juvenille flaming of one another, and, save the recent avatar scandal, nothing on here is even mildly controversial. What's the big deal?

"If it truly takes all kinds to make the world go around, then what say we don't allow those inclined toward anger, fear or resentment to make all the decisions for us out there." (I done came up with this little bit of "profundity" all by my lonesome, though I'm almost sure somebody has had to have said something along those lines before, sometime, somewhere, and so I'll plead guilty only of ignorance, not plagiarism) And if anyone out there finds the above offensive, for whatever reason, then I'll feel only sorrow, and none of the previously mentioned emotions. HEY! Maybe THAT'S IT! MAYBE I'm just "too deep" for this place here???!!! Nahhh! THAT CERTAINLY ISN'T IT!!! Don't "worry" folks. You ain't gettin' rid o' me THAT EASY, ya know!!! And JACKSON! GET your BUTT back here RIGHT NOW!!! YOU ain't leavin' EITHER! I like LEARNIN' stuff(regardless if it pertains to motorcycling or NOT) from you around here, DUDE!!! (and THAT goes for ALL of my fellow "Blatherers" around here TOO!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

It's human nature that we all get on someone's last good nerve. No one is exempt.
The good news is web forums are like radio . If something offends, we can ignore it and move on to the next.
No matter what happens here, the pros outweigh the cons every time.
