Okay crew. I ordered a set of turn-out slip on's from Khrome Werks in their closeout section. They are for a Harley, but fit our bikes 1 3/4 pipe, too. They were $26 shipped. The lady still has 20+ pairs left if any one wants a set. Here is the deal on them. The brackets do not line up, but they are not necessary. The port side bracket is visible, but not really noticable. They are baffled and sound pretty good stock, but are easy to open up- just pry up the tab inside the pipe and they become basically straight through- LOUD!!!! Too loud for me, and I wear ear plugs when I ride.





The bracket is of no issue to me. I'll be grinding them off then having the pipes ceramic coated black with the oval exit opening polished back out to chrome.

Probably the best bet would be the 202151.. 2 1/2" TAPERED SLIP-ON MUFFLERS for PRE-95 FATBOY (41).....$20.00 PAIR (LIST $106.95). they are likey to have tabs on them. the tabs could be cut off, and since they are tapers, the welds could be put on the inside and unseen.

I saw those when shopping for bars. those are sharp, how loud are they?

Loud. Too loud for me being that they are right under me. but that is subjective. They have a vintage tone. I should mention that I jacked around with the baffels some. I had bent the 'tounge' up to make the more free flowing- they're free all right! I bent it back down and it helped a lot, but still too much for me. I'm looking for some 54" fishtails if you know where to get some...

They also have tapered for the same price- $20.

i actually REALLY like these. i can't see parting with the specialty spares though. since they're practically brand new.

but for 20 bucks... it wouldn't hurt to have these in the garage for a change up.

the lady on the phone was like... "are you ordering these for a triumph?" i was like "how'd ya guess?"

would you reckon these mufflers require re-jetting? or would they work on a stock bike? (there's another guy intown with a stock speedy.)

Just picked up a set myself today. Can't beat the price. Since you won't be able to bolt the end of the pipe on, do you think just clamping them to the header is sufficient?

clamping them is what i plan to do... won't know though until i get them here and in the garage.

These are clamped on and are solid. No need for the bracket, but it would be easy enough to do with the tapered pipes. Just a shim is needed on the lower frame hole where the center stand should be (but isn't). Not really possible on the turnouts- but not needed.

i agree that it may be easier with the tapered ones. i chatted with the lady on the phone for a few minutes, comparing the pipes. but then i figured, if i wanted tapered pipes i would have left the stock ones on.

Here is a tip- if you take the stickers off, clean the adhesive off, too. Mine have a permanent stain from not doing it. I also had to file smooth the openings. There were burrs. I used some greasless lube to help get them on- it a tight fit!

did you have to rejet the carbs? or would these work with the stock rejetting. my SM is jetted for the spares now.

Just picked up a pair. Looks good, but at 20.00 per set, you get what you pay for. the chrome quality isnt the best, and there is discoleration around the bracket mounting point. i am going with black header tape from my header down to a extension piece that will stretch the overall length to standard mounting point. will send pics when finsihed.

i was thinking of going with the black header tape as well and painting the pipes or powdercoating black.

For me, WAY UGLY!!!

SM/TBA are low and long looking bikes.
With this pipe the bike seems a one cylinder sporty or Suzuki LS650 Savage big mono.

I like long pipes on this bike, they recall the low&long style of the bike.

i kind of agree, thats why i am grafting in a extension pipe that would legthen the pipe just beyond the passenger big mounts

my buddy put long fishtails on his america, look awsome. i believe they you can find them on the Paugcho website, for not to much money. They do really look nice on my bros bike, especially with the ape hangers.

i put them on yesterday. they look like an old muscle hot rod because of how they turn out on both ends. They don't line up as nice as yours bryan. i think you have a longer heat shield then what i have.

i'll look at opening the up a little more after a few rides. oh, and i'll look at taking pictures today too. (have been meaning to do that.)

I just ordered a set of the turn-outs this morning. Is everyone just using the stock clamps to secure these?

Stock clamps work fine, but it's a very tight fit. I had to bend out the flanges on the muffler ever so slightly and work like heck to slide them on.

If they are Cycle Shacks, they're very loud.
I use to modify CS's baffles, closing a kind of tongue in front of the baffle that causes gas partially direct flow, and adding 5" perforated pipe with a round plate back of the baffles to add a bit of silencing effect. Still loud but only at high revs.

You can do only with slash cut and slash down because on tapered and turnout the baffles are not extractable.

honestly, i don't think the turnouts are that loud. i have them on right now and don't have problems hearing or anything. maybe i just like them LOUD!!! Pogue Mahone is right - it was a tight fit, but with a little lube it'll work on.

next time i get them off i'm gonna bend the flap on the inside up to open them a little. the crossover is still on my list of things to take care of.

i've also got some crazy scraches, almost like my boots scratched the chorme off when they were hot. the crome is a little on the cheap side, but for 20 bucks what do you expect?

I just now installed the turn-outs. It helps to smooth the inside of the silencer's coupling point with a sanding drum. 1.25" works fine, just take the time to to ensure you sand the inside of the coupling point smooth. Once I got them on, it was too late in my neighborhood to open them up, so I started the bike in the garage with the doors closed (MAJOR reverberation/echo).
OH MY GOSH!! This is the sound that I have been looking for since I bought my cherished Speedy. It's RAW, It's POWERFUL, it's PURE Freakin' TESTOSTERONE!
I can't wait until I can take it to work tomorrow. There are so many Hardlys, and Hardly-clones in the parking lot, and none of them sound this PRIME-EVIL. They all sound like a diapered, flatulant, infant compared to the raw sound of my Speedy.
Only time will tell if I can take the new raw, powerful, sound of my Speedy every day. It's loud, to be sure, but it's also powerful in a gut-wrenching, visceral type of way. Seriously, these pipes ROCK.
