I want to put a 19 tooth front sprocket on my speedy. If I was to order one from a sprocket supplier what should I ask for?

I really don't know the shaft size or number of splines or I would have told you right off. I and everyone I know just buy them either from newbonneville.com or Triumph or a similar location.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Cheers. I enquired locally with the dealer ( 1 hr away ) they seemed to think there wasnt a Triumph one. I e-mailed Thunderbikes here in N.Z. 2 months ago and im still waiting for a positive reply other than we have refered your enquiry.... I just thought I could ask on this forum and somebody would know. I might have to pull it off and take it down and match the shaft and the thickness and select a 19 toofer I guess. Thanks anyway.

There isn't an OEM triumph sprocket in 18 or 19 teeth, only 16 & 17. They're made and sold only by after market companies. I'm not sure if Thunderbike does sprockets over there in UnZud but if not you can get them from Oz from a company called The Chain Gang.

There must be an 18 available because it is standard on '06 Speedy, at least after some production date. Not a 19 though. There's a lot of discussion here on the merits, pros and cons of going with a 19 on the front. I tried it and went back to 18.

Dontcha think a 19 tooth sprocket is gonna cut way way down on the initial start from the line?

I have a 790 Speedie and the only reason I dont go to an 18 is that I found that the degradation in first gear pull away is certainly less than with the old stock 16.....a 19 would make the bike seem dead pulling away from a stop light. It'd be outstanding on the slab but ......

The 19s need a little extra slip on the launch. They're great on the slab, but put a noticeable & audible strain on the mill at under 3500 RPMs.

I too went to an 18 from a 19, but I also don't expect to do any long slab trips in the near future. If I had a lengthy slab ride on the horizon, I'd put the 19 back on. After the first time you swap the front sprocket, subsequent change outs can be done in around five or 10 minutes.

To each his own I expect.

I said newbonneville and Triumph because thats where most people seem to get sprockets and thats why I don't know splines and dia. of shaft. Not that they both carry all sprockets. There are other places too but I figured if he wanted a 19 the newspeedmaster was the place or maybe BP.

Yeah. I hear what you guys are saying about the 19 toother. I have made some small mods ( K&N pods, 42 pilots, needle 1.5 up, 140 – 54g main and 1.5 turns, with custom pipes) On the WINEP7 Dyno it shows 118 mph in 4th. I seem to be looking for another gear on the highway so I thought I would try it for touring.

I went back and forth. I have the 19t on now and it is staying. Took me the last few months to get used to it. I love the way taller gears and once you get used to first its fine. I drive most of the time over 50 so taller is better.

How you ride is what it's all about. I am split between in town, highway and contry roadds, so the 18 is perfect for me. Some of you spend more time on the freeway (or higher speed longer roads) so a 19 works well for you. Some of you stay more in town so the stock 16 works well.

I'm on to my first 300 miles with an 18 toother. It seems very close to the 19. I stay in fourth until around 65 MPH.

I have the 18T and use 5th primarily above 55 mph - sorta like an overdrive. The 19T would be even more of an overdrive, make the gears even taller, and take a bite out of 1st gear starting. I would think twice about 19T if you do any 2-up riding. The 18T kept me from looking for 6th.

18 is stock? I thought all Speedmasters came with a 16 and the TAs came with a 17. Did they change at some point? Maybe I just haven't kept up.

I was always trying to grab another gear with the 16 on my Speedy so I went to an 18. The 18 gives me about 4000 rpms at 75 mph. That works great for me.

I think the Speedy went to 18 on the '06 models.

Ditto on how well the 18 works for me too. The 16 was definitley not enough on the freeway.

As mentioned above, mostly a matter of taste I guess. I had the stock 17T for a few years, then changed to an 18T last summer, in part because of comments on here. Do I like it?? Yes and no, I tend to run the rpm's where the engine sounds "happy". So now I shift up later and down sooner

My 06 Speedy came with an 18 tooth. It’s an 865 motor which develops much more Torque than the 790 motor. I’m always looking for another gear when changing up on the highway.

I have owned tons of different bikes and different gearing combos and no matter what I have done I always look for that extra gear.

Sometimes I do feel like I need a 3 1/2 and a 4 1/2 gear.
