The fork stop's made of a soft alloy and it runs up against the hard steel frame - if you're heavy handed when you turn the forks against the stop you'll compress it. If you've done that you're up for a new lower yoke, unless you want to try getting someone to weld it to build it back up, or sticking little rubber bump stops on it or something.
