Another possibility: take a look at the classifieds on this site. There are usually BA's and/or SM's for sale. Odds are, they have been properly maintained by the member.
BTW, my year-old SM has given me no problems - NONE! Which is a good thing, because I am an incompetent mechanic (but luckily, Phil lives close by!)
And everybody knows that an 883 is no match for our bikes.
