Thank you Phil, and Moe, and John.
Wield your hammers well to keep this one on track.

There are many people converging on VA to assist with the counseling of victims families. You probably won't hear much about them. Please support in whichever way best suits you. Those who are aligned with a religious organization will most likely be already aware of what your faith is doing.

Others can check out the usual aid groups.

Here's a few that I know about who are now there:

- The Rev. Robert Barnes of Santa Fe, N.M. a retired police chaplain with extensive training and experience in responding to school shootings. He was the lead on behalf of Presbyterian Disaster Assistance at the shooting in Columbine, CO.

- The Rev. James Kirk, Associate Pastor, The Moorings Presbyterian Church, Naples, FL. Jim also has extensive training and experience in responding to school shootings and similar events.

- Anne Van Allen from Annapolis, MD, a retired school counselor with more than 30 years of school related mental health experience.

What a horrible commentary that there are people with extensive experience in responding to school shootings.

I attended VT in '74-'76 as an engineering / business student and my wife graduated there. We hope that our daughter and son will go there also. Our thoughts and prayers for the survivors, the families and friends of the victims and the greater Virginia Tech community. Only God knows the answers to the questions that are being asked about Cho (shooter), and God isn't talking.

Liviu Librescu R.I.P.

Librescu, 76, a Holocaust survivor and an Israeli lecturer in engineering science and mechanics, was born in Romania and was known internationally for his research in aeronautical engineering. He had taught at Virginia Tech for 20 years.

"His research has enabled better aircraft, superior composite materials and more robust aerospace structures," said Ishwar K. Puri, the head of the engineering science and mechanics department.

Librescu's son, Joe, said his father's students sent e-mails detailing how the professor saved their lives by guarding the doorway of his classroom from the approaching gunman before he was fatally shot.

"My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee," Joe Librescu said Tuesday in a telephone interview from his home outside of Tel Aviv, Israel. "Students started opening windows and jumping out."

Yeah, wish for once we could all say: gosh, this has never happened before, now what do we do?
Guess those times ended a long time ago.

Thanks for mentioning this hero Moe. Here is a gentleman who had seen enough senseless death and violence perpetrated on innocents in his life that he gave his life Monday to prevent seeing more. He had his priorities in order, perhaps, more than the rest of us. Godspeed sir, and mission accomplished.

Let's all try to be a little "better" in his memory.

Here is a link to a more compete article on the wondrous soul Liviu Librescu

Quote:

When Romania joined forces with Nazi Germany in World War II, he (Liviu Librescu) was first interned in a labor camp in Transnistria and then deported along with his family and thousands of other Jews to a central ghetto in the city of Focsani, his son said. According to a report compiled by the Romanian government in 2004, between 280,000 and 380,000 Jews were killed by Romania's Nazi-allied regime during the war.

I found out last evening that the young man with the bloodied torso who has been pictured being carried from the building is a high school friend of my eldest daughter and was in my home many times. He's a great kid - bright, polite, and like all the others, had no reason to be a recipient of this needless horror. When I called my daughter to inform her, I then came to find that the first young lady murdered grew up with and was a good friend of a young lady that my daughter works closely. I was deeply saddened when this all took place. It's become doubly heart wrenching when you have even the remotest personal connection with these innocent victims - each and every one robbed of lives filled with promise.

You race fans out there root for Ward Burton this week. He has dedicated his hood to VT and is wearing VT gear while not in his fire suit. Nice gesture from a Virginia native.
