32 dead in cold blood, some execution style. 28 wounded, 4 critically. Unreal. God bless the victims, their families, and the entire VT community.

I saw it on the news at lunch. It left me speechless, literally. If the shooter had not been found dead, he'd be dead by now.

I have been catching bits and pieces of it on CNN all day. This is just terrible. I continue to be amazed everytime something like this happens.

What a horrible and despicable act of violence. My thoughts and prayers go out to the students, families and faculty of VT.

I called my daughter Libby at Clemson just to tell her I loved her. You just never know what's going to happen.

33 including the Piece of $hit gunman. I spent a lot of time in Blacksburg and have performed at the college. It's a really great little town, really nice people.

Bless them all.

An Asian guy, other than the Iowa shooting 15 years ago, it doesnt fit the normal profile. What a horrid thing to have happen, for anyone to go through, for the families and friends to to loss a loved one ( any loss in any manner is rotten ).

My wife and I both attended UNC-Chapel Hill. I loved it so much I received two degrees and lived in town for 12 years. Shortly after I graduated, a law student went "crazy" and proceeded to take a rifle down a main city street. He killed an innocent student athlete (roomie of a friend of mine), and was killed himself by police. If this had occured on campus, you can rest assured that all classes would have been cancelled, especially if given a 2 hour warning. However, major college campuses are, by nature, nebulous, disjointed, and sprawling places. There would have been innocents on campus then, just as there were today.

Yet, I still wonder why the administration didn't cancel classes via all channels at their disposal??? It is going to get uglier, if that is possible.

Dwight's right folks. Leave your politics out of this tragedy. We'll hear plenty enough from everywhere else.
When we have some idea of what set this nut off, maybe then some discussion.

For now. Just prayers.

Yes very sad indeed. Heard it on the radio as I was driving to a fire call during night shift. Who can possibly understand what gets into these nut cases's heads.

We live in MD and know a few parents/students. One of my buddies youngest daughter goes to VT. I'm out of town and afraid to call him.
My oldest graduated from a local 4 yr school in December. In September of last year a dad went to the campus shot both of his sons than himself. Police never said why. These things never make much sense.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I was on the golf course yesterday when my wife called me and asked if i had seen/heard the news.

There are no words to decribe this kind of tragedy. No words at all. Personally, i do not understand what makes someone flip out in such a way. What makes them so mad that they need to kill people. I dont get it.

As i mentioned on here last week. I try my hardest to avoid watching the news programs on tv. But last night my wife had the news on they were all over this storey. Of course they had no real facts of any kind. So they went on for ever on what they thought, rather then what happened.

Some moron on there was telling us how this should not come as such a suprise to us when our kids are subjected to porn and violence on the web and tv every day.

EXCUSE ME. Porn and Violence on the web and tv every day. What tv does she watch. And how does Porn and Violence on the web/tv explain the massaca shooting in Texas back in the 60's.

I dont want to trivialize (if that is the right word) this tragedy in anyway. BUT, is this horrible tragedy made worse by the fact that todays 24 hour news programs get a hold of these storys and within minutes they are all over the world being broadcasted to us by people who have little knowlege about anything.

They found a huge brain tumor in the Texas shooter: Does make that tragedy somewhat understandable. This one? We may never know.
I called my duaghter at NIU just to hear her voice. I think I'll drive up and bring her home for the weekend.

(I KNOW I should just stick with the "irreverent" little "jokes" here is efforts to keep this thread from reaching the "inevitable conclusion"....BUT......)

Let me ask you something here Larry? Do you have access to the stats(yeah, I KNOW one can prove ANYTHING with "stats") concerning the relative murder by gunfire rates in the U.S. compared to those other countries that you mentioned?

I don't know them, but "something" is telling me that we Yanks are "King of the Hill" when it comes to THIS little stat, BUT I COULD be wrong.

(why do I keep letting these people drag me into this crap?....oh that's RIGHT!....I'm a friggin' Blowhard TOO!)

Let's keep this thread's post related to the incredible sadness this tragic event has unleashed? Let's not spin this to our own personal views on other wholly unrelated topics? The family members have not even had a chance to bury their dead and here we are standing in the square, not acting as the Town Crier but instead acting like buffoons. OK?

THANK YOU MOE!!!

THAT(in my typical smartarse or "buffoonish" way) was what I was tryin' to do.

(you see, I've never learned to not "answer in kind" when someone is attempting to push their agenda....but I'll work on that)

Just saw on CNN the killer had mental issues and was writing morbid plays with death in them. They also found a note about hating rich kids. Haven't heard anything about a tumor though.

Rob,

They already have, he was a loner, excluded from the other students they were already setting us up. I guess he left a note behind in his room blaming everyone and their brother except for his own miserable carcass.

Trust me....CNN will find a way to make this lowlife from the lower end of the DNA spectrum seem a victim.

Well I can tell you guys they have already been talking about a note they found. Be some trick to turn him into anything more than the psycho he was though! Gotta wonder what is up with this world today. If it isn't one thing it's another. Every day when you turn on the news something else terrible has happened.

This story is repeated over and over and over in history. Harry Truman once said, "The only thing you don't know about human nature is the history you haven't studied."

So now, we have the latest mass-murderer to bemoan. Great.

What really frosts me is the note this latest fool (with a gun) left, in which he proclaimed, "You caused me to do this." I presume he was addressing the 18 year-old girlfriend he killed first. This is the total (and errant) antithesis of the homespun doctrine of "personal responsibility" that we all know so well (I hope).

For those of us that believe in God, - can you imagine going before the Almighty and explaining that you killed 33 innocent bystanders because your 18 year old girlfriend jilted you?

The theater of the absurd!

-BT

My thoughts are solely with the victims, survivors and families. The perpetrator is persona non grata and his percieved motivation of no interest to me.

At least the bast**d's dead, and the families of the victums will not have to put up with the media circus the trial would have become. And they wont have to listen to sombody actually defend this creep.

I agree John. Let's keep our thoughts on the victims, their families, and friends who are going through this ordeal.

Let's also keep the ancillary crap in the backseat, OK?
