Bought mine in August last year, just rolled 6100 miles yestrday, no problems. I was in the same place as you back in August. If I knew now what I knew then I would have bought one off eBay.
Best ride, handles, I say again, handles better than a Sportster and rides much better. For the money you will not be sorry. As Pat says you want proven track record get a Honda, but then again, my CB 900 Custom had weird motor problems in that the stud bolts started coming right out of the motor base (with threads) for no reason. Nothing is certain. With the warrenty on the Triumph you can't go wrong. If I was in the market for another bike, I would buy another America, without a question.
