Ok all you Triumph fans, here's the thing. I spent yesterday afternoon testing a Speedmaster at the local dealers with a view to buying an America, I have to say I was very suprised at the ride and handling of the new bike.. At present I have a Suzuki GSXR750 K6, the bike is awesome, I was toying with the idea of getting a Harley as It's time for me to quit speeding around the roads of Blighty. So come on give me the best reasons for chopping in the Jap machine and buying a British institution.

It's not a matter of Japanese vs British. It's a matter of which bike is truley better. Just get the Speedmaster. You will never regret it since you will be extremely pleased with it.

It is a bike that is awesome around town or for traveling. The handling is absolutley awesome in any situation. Some say that the Speedmaster and America are cruisers with sport bike like handling.

Well thanks to you all, I shall be visiting the dealer tomorrow and ordering a 2007 America, with short pipes and a sissy bar, I suppose at 44 years of age the GIXER has to go before it takes me with it. Having only joined today I was surprised to see that 2004 was the last time anybody put some event photos on the site?

Go for the Speedmaster! I know us Americans are suppose to buy Harleys, but on everycorner or at every bar here there are Harleys. There are a lot fewer people here that own Triumphs, but for the most part they are good people and happy they bought a Triumph. And yes there are people that have both.

Buy the speedmaster....I had a Harley Lowride and a Kawie 636....The speedmaster is way better than the Harley...I think it is a mix of a sportbike and a cruiser...The GXR 750 was going to be my next bike but I have decided that I need to slow down.....

Welcome to the site Martin. I can not imagine you could or would choose any other than an America, well or Speedmaster. Great bikes, great rides and well heck, they are made in your neck of the woods

did you look in the rides and events section of the Photo post.
or did you look on the first page of the site.
the home page ( first page ) is a bit out of date.
there was a reconstruction of the site and the first
page is a left over from the old days.

The only thing I will say is stand out in the crowd Martin, by a Hardly and blend in, buy a Triumph and GO YOUR OWN WAY

Go ask the dealer to let you look at a service manual and turn to the engine section. The engineering on the Triumph is first rate while Japanese bikes are designed strictly to be made more cheaply than possible.
Next, go look at the price tag on a typical Harley, about the same as a Speedmaster AND a Speed Triple. They are well made for the most part, but not that well made.

Then, there's the matter of personality. A Triumph has a personality like an old friend. A Harley has a personality like a rowdy hooligan. A Japanese bike has a personality like an apartment size refrigerator.

Funny, one of the bikes I'm researching as a possible addition to the garage is the new Bandit 1250. As much as I like my Speedmaster, I want more bike for extended trips.

Could you do me a favor with one of those pics you're going to take of that new America? Could you take a shot of the heel guard for the rear brake? It's different than previous years.

I also being a Bandit owner at the time looked at the 1250, it is very good value, even at Uk prices, although it is slightly budget build, cheap hose clamps, wires hanging about etc. I also owned one of the bandits with a well proven engine and as the new 1250 is an entirley new engine ( see how reliability goes) and the same type of bike I had, I decided to get the America I have lusted after for some time.

Notice I have been a member since 05, Is this a world record before actualy getting an America or Speedmaster?

I used to be indecisive, but now i'm not so sure.

Anyway due the vast knowelage I have gained from you all, the bike will come with short TORs ( not the loudest but nice) and the AI removed.

I shall try get a few pics uploaded.

Ok Im covinced that the GIXER had to go, so I have taken the plunge and ordered a 2007 America, with a few extras, apparently I have to wait a couple of weeks to get the bike from the factory, so there you have it, another convert to the British Institution.

Nice one Martin. My dealer says the blue is the colour that is selling well, I was going for a black, but with no trade in and the dealer had a blue in stock I got a blue for much the same. what extras did you go for? as mentioned I went with Short of roads.

Don't know what you got canyonwolf but I have 2 feet of water in my basement and somewhere around 2" to 3" of snow on the ground. Hard to tell cause its blowing around so hard too. Plus no power all day today from wind damage. And Wendy was in the hospital again last night. Can you guys believe our hospital has no radiologist at night!!!! They sent the damn catscan to India to be read!!!! I mean that literally!!
4 hours later we don't see the problem , come back when it gets worse , here is some pain meds!!! Pluis they did a low contrast scan and told us that and that they could have seen more if they did a higher res scan but it would have taken 6 hrs!!! Who cares how long as long as you tell us whats wrong!!
