ever since i can remember i have been in love with the 60's shelby cobras, the power and simplicity does it for me. i have actually visited the factory five raceing factory here in mass, small but very nice. just curious if anyone on here has ever had the chance to either ride in one or actually have there own. one day i will have my own, just a matter of time, how many people can say they can have there dream car for 30k

Shelby Cobra's are in my top five all-time favorite cars.
A guy in my town has a blue/white Factory Five. He drives it a lot and it seems to be well built and reliable.

There was a guy in my neighborhood who bought and sold collector cars all the time. Seeemed that every week there was a car carrier coming down the street with an old corvette or jaguar.
One day I heard the sound of the truck and looked out to see a '69 Shelby Cobra, my absolute favorite car.
This car was perfect in every way. of couse it had practically no mileage.
As I recall he paid about $36k for it several years ago and sold it about four months later for $42k.
Just seeing one makes my blood percolate.

My wife's brother owned one and it is for sale, certified kit car 99% complete, he died before he finished it the car was just painted and everything is disammbled and in bubble wrap.
The only problem (maybe not)is it is powered with a 350 chevy full blown motor. We thought he had a Ford 427 side winder for it, but can not find it.
I have never figured out how to post photo's on the forum but I can send you an e-mail with the photo's. The car is in Chicago and is part of his estate which Linda's Mom and Dad are the care takers.
Make an offer, I would take it but with everything going on right now house, pending move to SC and son in medical school we just do not have the money.

I am deinitley no fan of Fords, but I have to say that a Shelby Cobra with anything but a Ford motor is just plain wrong. There are only 3 or 4 Ford powered cars I would ever consider owning, a genuine Shelby Cobra is one of them.

There's a small shop around the corner from my place that does restorations and replicas. They got a Cobra on the go most of the year. I think they are starting to get tired of me coming by.

Does anyone remember how bad the Ford Flat heads were? I admit they are cool looking but will leave you on the side of the road. If I had a Dream car it would have to be an 53 Desoto Custom Coupe. That was the first Year of the Hemispherical Combustion Engine...

Ford Spelled Backwards is Driver Returning On Foot.  Sorry could not resist. Seriously, I will say the Shelby Mustange is Purdy. Two years ago I was at SEMA and they had a HUGE Shelby display. Everything from the 50's and up. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!! I was standing right next to the First "new" Shelby Mustang built when they decided to announce the end to the show. (For those of you who don't know every car in the place starts up and is driven out. One of the coolest things you'll ever hear). She is one beautiful sounding car

The original Shelby Cobra is my favorite car. A nieghbor had one and gave me a ride a couple of times. The experience was awsome as you can imagine, I was 16 and it was shear wood. I also saw one in a performance shop, the body was on saw horses it was all aluminum and we picked it up, of course we got our asses jumped.
In college an older frat brother bought a red Shelby GT 500 Mustang after returning from Nam. He let me drive it a couple of times, once again, shear wood.
My nephew has a 04 Shelby Mustang, it's a gas, but at my age it's more fear than wood.
I think the best Fords are the original Cobra, the late 60s Cobra Mustangs and all Ford GTs. Of course who doesn't love 65 & 66 Mustangs. When I win the Powerball I'll fligh you in to KC to drive my collection of these cars and a few Porchase and BMWs at Kansas Speedway. Wish me luck!

No Mustang hater here, FJ. Is this YOUR baby?! COOOOOL! Ever thought about painting a couple of blue stripes down it and maybe turning it into a replica Shelby GT350.(only one of the most beautiful muscle cars(no, make that ANY car) that's ever been driven down the road! (Had a '65 Mustang ragtop years ago, BTW) And regarding the Cobra... Some ten maybe twelve years ago, we(NWA Cargo) sent a Cobra Replica(with a 427 under the hood) over to Tokyo. It needed to be strapped down to a pallet behind the warehouse, so I "volunteered" to drive it there. (the "donuts I served to the tarmac" out back are still a topic of conversation around here every once in a while....that puppy was SCAREY-fast)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

That reminds me of when I was in high-school and doing body and paint work (I worked for my next door neighbor in his small shop in Salt Lake) once in a while we just had to test drive some of the cars. Back in those days there was a nice long road between Kearns and Magna that were never any cops. One of the cars I had the pleasure of driving was a 72 Triumph Stag. That was the first time I drove over 120 MPH. I'll never forget it.

While I like the Shelbys and their clones, it's been done to death. I'm going to take more of a Foose approach. Probably two-tone.

My first car was a ’66 GT fastback. It had the rare factory fog lights. Sold it when I joined the USAF. Kid wrapped it around a tree. Wish I had a picture.
Restored this ’69 Shelby with a friend of mine for an airline pilot. Not my favorite year:
This is a good friend’s ’67 GT350. Last year for the small block in Cobras. A little over 1100 hundred GT350’s made that year, before the 500’s made the scene. He had aircraft landing lights in the middle two housings. Used to ride around with our hi-beams on waiting for someone to flash, then zap-em with the landing lights. Stupid juveniles:
Here’s my recently deceased friend’s ’66 GT. It used to turn 12’s easily at Oswego speedway. Spent many hour under its hood:
Helped with the restoration of this ’66 GT for a girl from Kalifornia. Always loved the color:
One of my biggest regrets was not begging, borrowing, and stealing enough to come up with $3200 in ’74 for a GT500KR like this one. It was too much money back then.
A like vehicle can now sell for this.

Anybody around here ever been walking down the street, and then some strikingly beautiful lady comes walking the opposite way past you, whom you know you will never have the opportunity get to know better? Well, after lookin' at these Mustangs that Tom has posted here, I kind'a am feelin' the same way right now. (and if the preceeding offends anybody here, and I'm accused of "objectifyin' women"...sorry, but I'm more the "sub"jective type o' guy, so you can understand my position here)

The landing light story is kinda like what I do in my wrecker. I hate people who ride behind me with the high beams on. Well I have a spot light on each side on top of the boom support and 2 under the bed pointing back for working at night. When a guy comes up behind me with high beams on I blast em with all 4 spot lights.

no i want to build my own, and go with a stroked small block, sorry but i cant stand when people mix and match ford and chevy, if you want a chevy keep it chevy, and ford keep it ford. i suggest anyone take a factory tour, they treat you great and it is impressive to see the chassis and body in production stages. not for a while but one day i will build one

I spoke with me father in law last night and I was wrong the motor is not a 350 Chevy but a 351 Cleveland.
Not to sure what that means, but at least it is a Ford engine, the car came with a 427 Ford Side Winder (never heard of that) but my father in law told me the that motor is so rare it would sell for $30,000 by itself.
He also had a off frame restoration 1958 SS Chevy Impala with the original 348 with trips. Which just sold for $50,000.

Had a 1967 Mustang Convertable took 3 years to restore (frame up) Ended up with a 289 punched out .030 crane cam offy intake Holly dbl pumper 750 heddmans and thrush hush muffs car was bone stock except for the above mods...the only outward sign that any thing had changed under the hood was a GT pop open gas cap....and the twin tips stickin out the rear valance...  the only pics I have are "pre digital era"...  Alas I sold her for the down payment on my first house...  OH yeah...and I've made some (fiberglass)parts for factory 5 (my company does fiberglass work) and their stuff in nice the cobra kit is designed to utilize a newer 5.0 Mustang...

Good to hear you think the cobra kit is well made. My nephews have been tring to talk me in to building one with them, I supply the $$$, they do the work.
