First of all, I gotta admit, the "American Idol" contestant everybody is scorning these days is my cousin (little fella named "Sanjaya Malakar"). So, last night he sang one of my favorite songs, but because I'm used to hearing "Andrea Bocelli" sing it as I often watch his DVD "Under The Desert Sky." Because of Bocelli sings the song so perfect, I just couldn't endure my little cousin dinkin around with that song. Anyway, here's the YouTube link, Thoughts? -BT

"Speedmaster" is a title not a name, - and the title is not plural.

I can't see the vid right now because of Websense....
I have to admit that I had never watched American Idol until after your last post about it and still have only seen that one episode, but I love all the stir your cousin is making. Its funny because "reality TV" drives me nuts and critics are saying the 'bad' singers may just bring down the show.

Mikey790,
Actually, his Mom (her name is Jill) is my cousin. I guess that would make him my 2nd cousin.

It was actually his best performance so far. I figure he's good for 6th place.

BrianT,
Yeah but have you heard Andrea Bocelli's version of that song? Or Diana Krall?
They make a pretty high standard for anybody to hit.

Well I have never heard the original but I like what I heard here so it looks like he is doing something right.

He was helped by the fact that a lot of the others tanked their performance. He's only competing against 7 others, and Bocelli isn't one of them. He did very well, not great, but I don't think he 'butchered' it. Like I said, I think he's good for 6th place.

I'm no fan - of his or the show - but, other family members are. I've seen bits of this Sanjaya early on and the one last evening. I'll agree it was the best of seen from him to date. As for him being no Bocelli - You're talking a different league here. The kid may be a bit squirrelly looking / acting, but I say give the little dude a chance. What the hey - He, or any of them other wanna-bees ain't gonna ruin my sleep either way. There has been some exceptional talent surface from that show. Its what they develop in time that will be the real test.

Best performance? Thats like saying I just dropped the ultimate t*rd. He sucks, plain and simple and shouldnt be among the others in a singing contest. he would better fit as a cruise ship host, walking old people to their seats for lunch.

Thats a trip that you are related. Here it is, American Idol is not about talent. SURE you need some but look at some of the crap in the mainstream today. Its completely about popularity, total star quality. He has a carisma about him that makes him appealing to the masses(especially 13 year old little girls). I am sure that once he starts doing his own stuff he'll have a TOTALLY different sound than what he has to sing on the show. I don't think he is all that bad ( although he is not the best performer).

so, I'm curious what you think of the Howard Stern campaign to make Sanjaya the American Idol? He's been pushing his listeners to vote for Sanjaya for a few weeks now..with the goal of showing that the show is not necessarilly about the best/most talented singer - but rather more of a popularity contest...

Stern is obviously correct. With any luck it will so discredit the show it will be taken off the air.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Don't take this personally, but, the best result for that audition would have been...
