Well then I've seen almost as many out of spec valves as the mechanic.
I had 2 that were perfect, 5 that were borderline, and one that was too tight.
That was at 4500 miles. If I would have waited till 8000 miles like the manual says, I'm sure one or more of those "borderliners" would have been out of spec.
Also ... what a pain in the butt to adjust the valves on these things. Removing camshafts to do a valve adjustment just seems like way too much work for basic maintenance. I've always thought that the less you have to take something apart, the better. Especially engines.
On my other bike, all I have to remove is the valve cover ... and I never have to buy shims. Just adjust the screw and lock it with the nut. From start to finish it takes an hour, and it has twice as many valves.
Triumph loves to put these rockerless valvetrains in their bikes but I'll take the old rocker arm style valvetrain anyday.
