Hi there everyone - I have just bent/adjusted/made fit a new windscreen given to me by a work colleague. My America is all of two months old now, and wind buffeting is the only thing I have had to complain about - after nearly twenty years without a bike, I am like a kid in a candy shop - except for the wind. here in Cape Town, (South Africa) 30-40 Knot wind is common. The screen fits snugly and is sexily curved - only thing: I have to look through it... and around the edges and the top what I look at is distroted by the shape of the screen - looks like a weird house of mirrors image. (My work collegue imprted the screens from the States - but I do not know make/ or bike they were inteded for)
So after all that - what is your advise - does one look through or over a screen? Do you get used to the distortion?

Mostly I hear people look over them but I have never used one. Only one I even ever had came on Wendys America and was removed and sold in less than a week. The wind in my hair (if I had any) and face is part of what I love about riding. I can see in 30-40 knot winds on a regular basis how you would want to block it a little though! Oh and welcome.

Been browsing the pics in the gallery section... and most of the screens there look about the same height... maybe just take some getting used to..

You didn't mention what type of screen you have, how tall it is and how tall you are. It sounds like the windshield is too tall. Most windshield manufacturers will agree that it is best to see over the windshiled. The screen should still force the flow of air either over your head or to the top of your helmet.

Personally, I couldn't stand to look through a windshield. Not only are there distortions, but riding in the rain could be much worse.

Getting used to looking over a windshield can be tricky - at least it was for me.
Can you lower the height by changing the angle? I've seen some windscreens mounted nearly vertical but mine follows the angle of the fork.

I look over my Roadster screen. My friends Road King, you look through, which to me is strange. I guess you get used to everything eventually.

A screen should be as high as your mouth or nose, no higher. Meaning if you use a level of some sort placed across the top of the screen you should be at nose height. If you have to look through it the screen is too tall.

Now you have my opinion, others may vary.
