As most of you know, this riding season I'm gonna be on a used Beemer (so I guess I'm a "Beemer-Thug"). I'm gonna go pick the thing up in Portland this coming Wednesday. Then, this weekend I went surfin the net for some sound files, and, OMG! How in the heck am I gonna get back my Speedy's baritone exhaust note with that thing!? Here's a "YouTube" file of someone riding his R1100S with stock exhaust (I think). Then, here's a YouTube file of me riding my Speedy. How do I work with this situation? Then, I went to find out what Staintune pipes might sound like on the Beemer (if I laid down $1,399.00 for them). Here is what that .wav file sounds like. I'm depressed! B[eemer] Thug Soren - I'll go on the "Idaho Invasion" only if you promise not to make fun of me.

It kinda sounds like a fart. No offence I mean it literally. I have heard the old boxers with drags and they sound good. There is even one in that lame superhero movie comedy with Genine Garofalo , Pee Wee Herman , I can't remember who else.

Could maybe change your name to pooterwimpy LOL Sorry but I can see it comming with that exhaust note and a BMW.On the same note though you should hear my R50 with origonal pee shooters on it. I used to hate it when anyone else started thier bike first cause I couldn't hear mine or tell if it was running.

B'Thug,
If you're needing a safe enclosed, space for that black/yellow speedmaster piece of art, I just may know of one for you.

John,
My Speedy will be back. Although the frame is not twisted, it still will require me to disassemble to motorcycle down almost completely. Since that is the case, and I have something to ride, I can make a good & proper project out of this thing. I gotta tell ya John, it would be very difficult to say goodbye to my Triumph. It just has too much character to just let go of.
And I really don't think I will ever be snooty or "refined" enough to ride a BMW.
But, not being out in the open-air is just more than I can take.

My John Deere sounds better. For maybe $12.00, you can get a pair of 8 inch long straight extensions and a pair of turnout extensions. I put this on the R90/S I used to have, the straights on the headpipes to get make the whole setup long enough to reach the pipe hangers, with the turnouts behind them. Sounded like a Hawker Tempest flying down the freeway.

Thug, Ya know in the end it may be a blessing in disguise. If you have to tear it down that far just take your time and when you are done you should end up with exactly what you want even better than before. I know it sucks now but later you may be even happier

I'll try real hard.
I remember when I got pulled over in Boise for my pipes the cop going on about how quiet his beamer was, especially compared to our bikes.

SalMaglie,
You nailed it. I'm wondering how I can overcome that image? Maybe get a tattoo, have a cigerette hangin out of my mouth while I ride, flip cops the bird while wheelie-ing past them, etc?
We'll see.

I sure got a lot of strange looks at the BMW dealer's open house when I rode in with my relatively loud piped Speedmaster and wearing a black leather jacket. I've since decided a BMW just isn't in my sport-touring buying plan. A month ago I went with the local BMW riding group's recommendation of a supposedly good Mexican restaurant in Mammoth, Az. I found out that they don't even know what good Mexican food is supposed to taste like, so how am I supposed to trust them about bikes?

My Triumph dealer is also a BMW dealer. It's kind of a clash the 2 crowds are different. Even the yuppie scum types are rougher than the BMW crowd. But they started as a Triumph dealer in the late 50s and sold them right up until the end and then sold parts and worked on them and now are back selling them again. So it's the BMW guys that get the funny look there. More loud Triumphs old and new than BMWs. Bring to mind HEFTY HEFTY HEFTY..whimpy whimpy whimpy. LOL

Hey thug this might make you feel a little better about the BMW rider image.
Where I work there are about 15 of us that call ourselves "Bikers", this morning there was one bike in the parking lot,,,A BMW, the only BMW owned by anyone that works there. Tommorrow morning the only bike in the parking lot will be that BMW.Hes rode it everyday since March 20 (excpet when it snowed). Might be a snooty bike and it sounds like an electric razor.
But he's deffinatly the hardest core of the rest of us "Bikers".

Thanks oneijack, I finally found a sound file from "Two Brothers Racing" for the R1100S that sounds a tad better. But it's still not my Speedy. -BT

OK I remember the name of the movie, it was called Mystery Men. With Ben Stiller on an older BMW with straight pipes. It sounded pretty good. I can't find anywhere to get a sound file anywhere.

Mr. Furious: You're into motorcycles. Monica: [uninterested] No, not really. Mr. Furious: Oh. 'Cause I got a motorcycle. Monica: [She nods without looking up] Yeah, what kind? Mr. Furious: It's a Harley... Monica: A Harley! Mr. Furious: [He nods, then lurches into honesty] ... compatible. It's a Harley-compatible. Basically the same engineering.

Mark one thing you gatta remember that it's a beamer, completely different bike, completely different style, completely different sound, and nothing wrong with that. Actually, I would almost worry if it sounded like cruiser.
All kidding aside, the most important things are that you are comfortable riding your beamer and that you get that Speedy rebuilt, so that whatever you are in the mood to ride that day, you can.
More than likely, I will never get rid of my Speedy, but I wouldnt mind an addition of that new Tiger.
Soren
BTW... I still have that pic (on my other computer) of me getting pulled over that you took.

I reckon you go to a BMW site and look up what you need and leave this site to what it is dedicated to.....Trumpy's. But that is just what I reckon.

Darren, Lighten Up! Mark (BT) is one of the original members of this site, and an all around good guy. He still has his Speedmaster, he is just adding to his stable so he can ride again (the Speedy had a slight accident) and there really isnt any sense in having two of the same bike.
One thing to remember, and this is very important, so pay attention, is that yes we absolutely love our Triumphs, but we are not snobs. Once you get that way, you are no better than some of those hardley guys, beamer guys or whatever brand bike some of those snobs can be.

well maybe you should change the name of the website. Hey, not my problem you take it personal, maybe you should try a little of the old freedom of speech. I said what I felt and I understand that you feel threatened, but grow up and understand that there is a lot of guy's that have owned Triumphs for a long, long time and a website like this is a breathe of fresh air. You said it when you retorded to my statement as them Hardley guys or beamer snobs. I never once insulted any bike owner as you did. Each to their own. And me...I own a Triumph. Have done for 28 years.

snapperman, I still own my Speedy. I laid it over last year when a dog ran out in front of me. I resleeved it with a Wiseco 904cc kit and had a lot of fun with it. Here's is what it kinda looked like before I had my mishap. I also got second place in the 2004 bonnevilleamerica.com photo contest with... ...this photo. And, my beloved "Bumble-Bee Bonnie" will rise again. I am not your enemy. -BT

I remember your bike and admire it very much.(I have been around this website for a couple of years as well) Just a shame that a website that I look forward to very much has turned into, say what WE think and not as you feel set up.I never said you are not welcome...I said that there are other websites to go to and lets try and keep this one for what it is meant for. Sounds like politics to me....

well snapper I am also a long time Triumph owner and have 20 bikes if you include the 2 new ones the rest range from 54 to 72.I have been riding them for 30 yrs and love them. But I also own an old BMW that is also a great bike. I razz people alot about rice as I don't like jap stuff but thats my opinion.Even if he sold his Speedy I doubt the people on this site would tell him to get lost. They haven't booted me yet and I am by far not the most popular guy here. Understatement? I think not. We are willing to discuss his other bike , give our input , benefit of any knowlege we have , and wish him luck in his new endevor. We are also interested in his opinion..does he like it?.....does he not like it?....any problems?.....Dependable?...etc...

Snapperman has a legitimate gripe, in that this thread belongs in "other bikes".
As for the pics beutiful speedy..BMW well engineered machine but ugly as a mud fence.

Phil, Then look at the pic below and ask yourself if some limp-wristed Beemer-yuppie would stand that close to 2000 feet of empty air? Tony Bennett left his heart in San Francisco, - and I left mine with a wrecked Triumph Parallel Twin. -BT

oneijack,
I dispute that this thread is about "another bike." In fact, I engaged in a goodly amount of self-deprication by heaping scorn on my 2nd bike's sound (as compared to my beloved Bumble-Bee Bonnie).
That premise should be clear to all that read the posts.

Just so you know, the Staintune sound like shlitz and aren't worth a third of the price.
As I've said before, Laser and Two Brothers sound the best on that bike. No need to do a chip either unless your planning on all high speed riding.

On the note of that cliff dude. Has anyone here seen that photographer at the Grand Canyon that jumped out to one of those tower like rocks took his pic then jumped back camera and tripod in hand? It was either a series of pix of him or a vid I forget but he was friggin nuts!! He even jumped back to the part that was very steep technicly over the rim.I'll post the pix if I can find them.
