Since I don't have much hair, I always have something on my head to protect it from the sun or the cold. I find my half shell works great for this protection. I didn't wear a helmet for 20 years, except for dirt bike riding, until my son was old enugh to ride on the street. I told him then that he had to take a course and get the right equipment including a helmet. He asked why he needed a helmet since my wife and I never wore them when riding on the street. Well, I then bought a full face helmet, which I hated - to confining. I have worn the half shell style now for about 10 years. It doesn't fly off like my hats used too! I probably wear my helmet 75% of the time.

The reason I don't agree with the helmet laws is that the feds are making sure they protect us from ourselves. Then they blackmail the states into passing these laws by cutting off federal funds if the states don't go along with their ideas. It should be a state issue.

Then there is the argument that the taxpayer is footing the hospital bill for helmetless riders. Hey, no kidding? The taxpayer pays for everything. I bet the money spent on helmetless riders is a drop in the bucket compared to auto accidents, bathroom accidents and horseback riding.

One thing about Colorado: they always seem to buck the feds on this blackmailing. We lost a lot of highway funds last time the feds forced a helmet law on us. I can't remember Colorado ever having a helmet law.

Message to government - get your priorities in order, take care of business, do something good for America and leave us alone.
