Figure not just the cost of living but the tax consequences. Uncle Sam will take a much lower cut and the state and local taxes will be much lower in most cases. A guy I know just moved to Iowa from the San Jose area for family reasons and took a 20-25K pay cut. He figures that between the lower housing costs and the changed tax brackets he has up to 10 grand in additional discretionary spending money.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
