I know this freaking weather is teasing us BAD! I tried like nobody's business yesterday afternoon to get home early to take a ride in this 85 degree weather we had (but work as usual got in the way). Now it's 20's and snow coming... I am soooo depressed.

Pat,
I see that the northern half of New England will get another foot of the stuff. Mine is almost gone only left in the areas where we get no sun what so ever.
Heavy rains all day should finally wash the sand that was left over away. Only problem it is not going to get out of the low 40"s for the next several days.
Ran into the same problem you did in SC comparable jobs pay $10,000 to $20,000 less. I'm still committed, but a taking a $20,000 hit is going to be hard to swallow even with the cost of living.

Last few daze were fantabulous, sunny, warm, roads cleared by the heavy rains of last week. Ahh, bliss. But coming soon to this neighborhood - MORE FRIGGIN SNOW!!!
Last week we broke a record at 81 and sunny....put the shovel away for the winter. This morning was 17 and salt. The 5"-7" of snow really didn't happen, but the salt did............

We had rain today, light to heavy. It should wash away the rest of the sand/salt, if it doesn't turn to snow.
I want to get to GA so bad I can taste it! Uncle Charlie

Only a quick one yesterday though I had a customer comming to pick up a part and I had to install it too. Lucky it was only a power mirror on a Ford Exploder.

Well since the bike is at the shop getting that vibration sorted out I can't ride. So bring on the snow, one more day to ride the sleds.

Geez Rob that really sux. we only got a mere dusting. But don't worry, the weather liars are calling for snow for the next week so I'm sure we'll get hammered again. You know how this works right? They came out last week or so and cleaned/swept the streets clean and the rain had washed 99% of the sand and salt away, so it only figures that they will have to reinstall the plows and come crud the streets up all over again. My snow plowing buddies love the overtime though.

So I guess that's one good thing about living in NYC...not nearly as much snow as the rest of the noreast...it's gonna be in the 50's all next week. That'll change for sure once I move up to MA though.

This is just payback for me cutting 1/5 of the highway snow removal budget on Tuesday. At that point this was supposed to be a dusting.

Dayum Rob, I can almost see the tear stains on your pix.
And I don't blame ya.
They're talking 'snow showers' here in the low lands / Berkshire Mountain foothills. We're on a new state mandated regime of no sand, with salt and calcium only based road melt diet here.
Just when the roads had washed clean of the salt chunks...

It took me an hour to shovel the wife out this morning. She didn't think it was going to snow so she parked at the end of the driveway. I have to fix the tractor soon.

Well, I got my bike back from the mech and managed to put 300 miles on it since Saturday 31st. Now we got ice, snow, blowing snow, salt and people sliding all over. What a drag. My spring break starts in about 2 hours and I'm back riding around in my cage again...bloody hell. BB

one of the worst blizzards to ever hit this area was in April.

Shudder...Don't remind me. I was working for a Napoleanic tyrant of a doctor who made me pick him up at 7:00 AM for a community health forum we were holding in Providence cuz I was the only person that had a 4 wheel drive vehicle. The only folks who showed up at the forum were he and I, the caterers, and the homeless people from downtown Providence. (They got a really good breakfast and a long acedemic PowerPoint presentation on HIV preventive vaccine research.)

I guess we're a bit luckier over here. Not even a dusting, just some flurries and temps in the 20s. I'm ready to move South.

Sad thing is that I have to leave this beautiful weather to visit Schweinfurt, Germany (THE #1 Target of the 8th Air Force in WW2, so nothing older than 62 years old!!), I'll try to be sad about it, really!!! Especially when I read that cold, grey, damp, dismal Germany is having 73 and sunny all week while I'm there... Geez, New England really does suck, when GERMANY is warmer and sunnier, that says a LOT!!!

It was colder on Easter than it was on Christmas this year. I rode snowmobiles and cut wood on Saturday, since I have grossly underestimated this winter and how much wood I needed. Went up to way northern VT for Easter and did some more riding, 8 inches of fluffy powder on the trails. The only problem is that some trails don't go anywhere since the ponds are thawed.

Figure not just the cost of living but the tax consequences. Uncle Sam will take a much lower cut and the state and local taxes will be much lower in most cases. A guy I know just moved to Iowa from the San Jose area for family reasons and took a 20-25K pay cut. He figures that between the lower housing costs and the changed tax brackets he has up to 10 grand in additional discretionary spending money.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

John, take a $16,000 pay INCREASE and still have a tough time, now THAT is hard to swallow. But, in that regard, unless you move into a REALLY upscale neighborhood in Charleston or Hilton Head, a $15,000 drop should still be do-able. Property tax will be about 1/3 of what it is here, and my car insurance went from $104 to $270 (even with switching companies!) coming up here, so there are lots of little things. And of course, NO heating oil, reasonable rates on electricity (none of the Supplier and Delivery Charge NONSENSE like here), and lots of little things add up. Even with the money I would lose from buying a house down there now where I live for $120,000 (significantly more than what I paid for it back in 1995!), I would still be doing alright even if I went back to my pay right before I left SC. Of course there are higher prices to live there than where I lived, like Greenville and Charleston, but overall, everything including daily costs are much lower, and should you chose to build a house out of town in the country or in a smaller town on the outskirts of some place like Greenville, or Charleston, then you can come out even better... And then of course, there's the money you'll save by being able to get 40mpg every day on your America riding MUCH longer through the year than up here, at MUCH cheaper gas prices, so that'll probably add up to $10k right there....

When I went out to feed the horses this morning, the snow was all gone and the water toughs were all thawed. The forecast is 2 days of summer starting tomorrow and then 2 days of wind. Now, when they say wind here, it does not mean kite weather unless you tie a string to the shed roof.
