Wow! Lots of styling cues taken from BMW. It could definately make a dent in GM's sale of the Solstice/Sky. Lets hope the production model doesn't change too much.

Well what I was refering to is. As I have said I run a towing co. and I have been under Vipers and Prowlers and the welds are as bad as K cars. You would think the quality would be better on something high end. Plus all that power and the suspension mounting points are weak looking too. I like the looks of the new Charger and 300s but haven't been under any to see what the chassis looks like. I was just saying I hope things have improved since the last one I was under.

I like the looks of that, except for the low rear fenders... a little akward from that angle. As for the charger, it's a super solid car! Haven't looked directly at the welds, but there is a road a cross almost every day with a BIG crown in it And I go over it fast... Not even a squeek out of it. then again, it's based on a Mercedes platform...

I tend to agree, I am not a chrysler fan either but one of the toughest engines I can think of was the 225 slant 6 by chrysler.

Those suckers would last about forever. Tough engine story:
In high school a friend of mine had a '55 Chevy with a 265 V-8. Abused the hell out it and it started burning oil, burned so much that all he would use was everyone else's used oil after we changed it, or ten cent a quart Ray-O-Lube. After a few smoke tickets and getting tired of smelling like burned oil all the time, he decided to blow it up. I followed him to a road about 15 miles out of town (long and straight) where he put it in first gear and floored it. Never shifting out of first, wide open throttle, he took off looking like a WW-II destroyer laying down a smoke screen. About two miles down the road it stopped smoking, his oil pressure light came on. Still in first, still WOT, he drove it the rest of the way into town, and another three or four miles to his house. As you can imagine, the engine was making all sorts of horrible noises when he finally shut it off. An hour or so later, he started it up again. It still ran. He gave it to his brother-in-law, who put some oil in it and drove it away, smoking like it always had.

I say about the slant 6 because when I was younger I worked in a junkyard and my tool wagon had a slant 6 in it. Rad was shot and had a hole in the oil pan. I drove that thing with NO water in it at all and most of the time 3 or 3 quarts low on oil give or take. Always got drain oil too.It used to get so hot by lunch time the starter wouldn't crank it anymore. Thats was when I would go have lunch. I came back and it would be cool enough to start again. Then I would drive the rest of the day. Hard too hauling 2 huge tool boxes and my torches plus any parts I might be hauling. Inventory days it would be loaded to the roof and on the roof too with parts to file away. I drove it like that for over 2 years and when we retired it it was still running as good as it ever did and didn't even smoke or knock except when very hot it would gas knock. Was a 76 or 77 Aspen wagon.

Wasn't going to pipe in, but had to counter the Dodge Sucks reply. Every vehicle I have enjoyed owning or repairing has been a Chrysler product. I do my best not to get close to the other brands. It just seems to me that Dodge has thought about the mechanic when they design their vehicles. Everything is usually pretty easy to get to. I "abuse" my vehicle by not changing or watching the oil like I should, but still have 149,000 on my 318 with no real problems(knocking on my skull so as I don't jinx myself)

I've also had good luck with Mopar products. The slant six was very reliable but so was the 318 V-8. That one had a run of 30 years or more. They used in in snow cats, and marine applications also. I will always be a Chrysler product fan, although I did have a period of depression when Mercedes bought them out.

I am a Mopar fan. Never had the pleasure of owning any Mopar muscle cars though (as much as I have always wanted to). In my younder years, I had two Plymouth Valiants, a '68 and a '72 (ifI remember right) one with the 198 slant 6 and the otehr with the 225 slant six. Darn good motors. Definitely not sexy cars at all, but they were great. The year after high school, I traveled alot and put 40,000 miles on that '72 that year. Then I made the mistake of changing the oil (threw a rod he next day).
Right now, I have that 2000 Plymouth Neon. Not the most beautiful car on the road, but it is comfortable and super reliable (and the price was right - since my '88 280z completely died I had to get something real fast). I have over 100,000 mile on it now.
I absolutely completely refuse to own a Ford. the closest I have come to that was a '64 Mercury Comet. I never did get that thing running. I tried to stuff a 289 (out of a 68 Merc) and the motor mounts and tranny mounts didnt match up.

I wasn't too happy when Benz bought chrysler. I had a couple of old dodges an 88 d250 and an 89 Ramcharger both with 318s that ran forever. Now I have a 00 Dakota with the 3.9 thats alright no power, gets stuck easily, dents with a feather but runs good. Looking at the new Dakota's their quality has really dropped. But on the bright side Benz is firmly tied to diesels and seems to be looking at bringing more into the states. That will keep me interested.

Good looking convertable. I like it.
I also like the Pontiac convertable and the Saturn. Saw a Black Saturn Sky the other day with over size chrome wheels. Man it looked good.
Ive only owned 1 chrysler car. A Sebring and i thought it was a very good car. Comfortable, well made and never let me down. Never owned one of the 'old' american musle cars that you guys always talk about. Like the look of a lot of them though.

Did the Pizzeria thing in another life. Bought every 225 I could find for delivery vehicles. Paid an average of $300 each, probably bought 15-20 of 'em and just let the drivers run the wheels off 'em. Once the #5 cylinder started knocking, I knew it'd only last another month and when the rod punched through the block, I'd sell it for $150 scrap. Only thing that held up better was used Postal Jeeps, but they fell over a lot.
Got a couple of vans now with the 360 (80K and 45K miles), if the vans hold up as well as the engines will, I'll be happy.

If you think that parts are easy to get to on Chrysler products you never changed a water pump on an intrepid or tried to get a steering box off anything from the late 60 through mid 80s or changed a starter on a 2.2 or 2.5 4 cyl or a turbo on the same motor if so equipped P.S. turbo makes the starter even harder. I worked in a junk yard for about 5 years and have done all of the above and then some since I now own a towing/repair/parts shop.

I am a Chevy man. GM actually. My Chevy wrecker has well over 1,000,000 miles on it. But I can say as well as the slant 6 the 318 was another good motor. The suspension was the weak point in the older Chryslers. I can't count the sway bar links I sold and fixed. Torsion bars too. Run forever though and if I had to choose minor suspension trouble over engine or trans problems I would choose suspension. I had a few old GM muscle cars and loved them. 66 Impala SS convertable with 427 , 4 spd and a LeMans Sport 390 HP 400.

I liked that Copperhead concept car, Soren. I thought it was a shame that the Higher-Ups at Mopar didn't give it green light. And for some reason, which I can't quite put my finger on, I always thought that it remembled a somewhat updated Austin-Healey 3000.
And, regarding this Demon concept...I kind'a like it, but that "aggressive" grill looks a bit out of proportion(too large) for the rest of the car, in my view.
It looks as if the back end of the car goes into a "boat-tail" look. And I right?

Dodge actually has the best engine, Chevy has the best chassis and Ford has the best huh....well nothing, other than ride comfort. I bet the cool retractable top breaks first but the motor will outlast the body.
for the record, the I see more Fords in the shop broke down than anything(especially Power strokes). I rarely see a Dodge not running, but the body, electrical, seats, powersteering and window motor always seem to be broken. (I hang out in automotive shops almost everyday)

Oh! And before anybody around here pops a picture of that SSR in order to answer my question...I'm talkin' a REAL car/truck, not that toy(cool as it is) that Chevy made recently.
I'm talkin' something that one can actually USE to put bikes(or whatever) into the bed of.

Well dill, I hear(and see in the magazines) that your wish for a new Camaro is on it's way to your garage as we speak. BUT....WAAAAAA....I WANT them idiots in Motown who put bow ties on all their cars to make that there new EL CAMINO!!!! Whaddo I gotta do, draw a friggin' PICTURE o' one for 'em???!!! (actually, I COULD do that....you see, I'm pretty good(always was) at drawing cars, and I came THIS CLOSE to goin' to Pasadena's Art Center College where the vast majority of auto designers graduate to become those guys who do that for a livin'......but I chose this inferal airline "career" instead years ago.....excuse me while I cry some more.....WAAAAAAA!)

I agree with you on both. There have been several concepts that they (Chrysler Corp) should have built that they didnt. I think some of it had to do with Mercedes running the show. Some of their best concepts came out just before then.

Those are a couple of things that maybe need to be seen in person. Sometimes it is tough to tell porportions from photos, depending on the angles.

One of the recent car mags had a little shot of 4 Dodge concept roadsters from semi-recent years, all leading to the Demon, Copperhead being one. I think, finally, people are getting back into smaller cars, and they are jumping on it. Dodge seems to be good at trend watching... And of course it's like a Miata! Which is a blatant ripoff of the british roadsters (just doesn't leak oil). Just like the Z3 was. But that is sort of like people calling our bikes "Harley clonses" just cause they are cruisers... I also like the Sky/Solstice! Nice cars. Can't wait for the hard top to come out

I don't totally agree with Chevy not making good engines. The small block has been a good motor since 1953 until they screwed it up in the late 90s setting aside the darn 305 that they put a soft cam in for god knows why.And the 250 straight 6 also was a very good engine by Chevy as long as it wasn't the integral head version!
